ya know, i appreciate this. i once had an english teacher who had served a couple tours in the army, and once a kid asked him about how he felt about situations like this. my teacher said “well, after the military i went to a very liberal college. and that’s okay. people would burn the flag every single day on campus, and you know what, i didn’t get angry. they had the right to protest. it didn’t hurt my feelings. as long as they didn’t hurt anyone. my buddies died for their right to protest like that.” i find that really admirable.

You are a veteran that took the oath of service saying you would defend the US Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic and you haven't watched football because someone exercised the rights you fought to protect? Do you forget that your oath wasn't to a flag or a song but to the very rights you are spitting on? Why do you disrespect every man and woman who has ever died fighting for those rights by forgetting what they died for?
@charlesdai
@charlesdai 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm sorry, I should embrace someone who has never served our country to disrespect our country by not standing for the national anthem. Im sure every man and woman who has ever died fighting for our rights are turning in their graves for me not watching football, maybe it is my right too! Do baseball, basketball, hockey players have to stand for the anthem? The men and women who died serving our country wouldn't have cared if we showed disrespect to our country and flag? They wouldn't have cared if we didn't stand for our anthem? I'm sure the veterans who lost their arms and legs fought for the rights of millionaire athletes who didn't stand for the anthem or showed patriotism to the country. I took an oath of service to defend the constitution of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, more domestic than foreign lately. Everyone has the right to protest, which includes my right to protest against the NFL by not watching it or buy any products from it.
@blitzofchaosgaming6737
@blitzofchaosgaming6737 4 жыл бұрын
@@charlesdai No one has to stand for the Anthem. You are thinking of North Korea and China. You have every right not to watch football but to claim that people exercising the rights that we fought for is disrespecting the country is not what we fought for. I agree there are more domestic enemies of the Constitution than foreign right now. Like veterans that think the flag and the anthem are more important than Constitutional rights.
@charlesdai
@charlesdai 4 жыл бұрын
The audience doesnt have to stand for the Anthem, it is a free country, but players do, just like in most professional sports, they are heroes to many children and they have to set a good example. I understand we have the right to protest anything, but protesting the flag and the national anthem is not patriotic, not illegal but immoral. We need to show our next generation the importance of unity, not division. China and North Korea are extreme, but we are extreme too in the other direction, allowing everything in the name of freedom and the constitution, there are limits to the freedom of speech and the right to bear arms, its called COMMON SENSE. I dont think any veteran thinks the flag and the anthem are more important than Constitutional rights, but I know most thinks the flag and the anthem should not be disrespected...again...Common Sense

@@charlesdai No they don't have to. There is no law that says anyone has to stand for the flag or anthem. Baseball players have kneeled. Olympic athletes have kneeled. Some have even sat through it. Here is what everyone who is critical of Kapernick. He read a letter written by a veteran. He asked to speak one on one, as a man to this veteran instead of ignoring it like most would. The veteran provided his take and another way of protesting by Kapernick kneeling to PROTEST "POLICE BRUTALITY ON MINORITIES". This meeting between persons of two different thoughts started a dialogue with nutual respect dor one another. This dialogue is called communication. People need too hear to see and to see too hear.

It wasn't until the D.O.D. paid the NFL, that the players were made to come out on the field. I spent 24 years in the Air Force and swore to protect and defend the Nation, and the Constitution. Not a song, Not a pledge, Not a President. And definitely not someone whose expertise in patriotism is running out and getting daddy to buy him a doctors note to shirk his duty by getting out of the draft line. This wasn’t about patriotism or respect to the flag when “peace officers” can kneel on a 46 year old Man’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds on Camera after he’s already been beaten and detained. While 3 others cops look the other way and joke around. That’s exactly what Colin Kaepernick was trying to prevent.

Why? He's doing the most American thing in the world... protesting. And nobody is getting hurt, no property is being destroyed, and Kaepernick is putting his money where his mouth is. He lost his [very lucrative] job over this because he felt it was the right thing to do. Like you, MG, I'm a veteran and I honestly can't see the harm in someone publicly exercising the rights you, Nate Boyer, and I served to protect. I'm not trying to tell you how to feel. Your right to disagree is just as sacred as Kaepernick's. I'm just presenting another viewpoint for you to consider.

But he made the issue more about him than the actual issue at hand. Everyone started talking about rights to protest etc and forgot what the protest was about. Good intentions but bad outcome. As professional athletes, the people who are kneeling in protest could be doing so many other things to shed light on this issue and could actually be doing more. Like Boyer said in this video "we can always do better".

One of my brothers even enlisted when he was younger. When those players kneeled, it wasn’t out of disrespect, I know that with all my heart. It was about preventing George Floyd and Jacob Blake. Black people have been beaten in the street in the U.S. by our own police force. It’s wrong and has to stop. So please don’t feel like we disrespect the flag, we are only trying to send a message. And Kaepernick knew that by doing it like that, it would get the most attention.

Hate to break it to you folks, but it's litterally just a song about how beautiful the flag looked to Francis Scott Key.(the guy who wrote the star spangled banner, which is the national anthem, which some people don't even know, apparently).
