My experience is that you have a group of like minded folks. You may be in various clubs together. You suggest getting together to sit down and do a little preliminary planning. Skills, needs, focus of the group, primary/secondary jobs, chain of command, communications. Just hang out and get some rough ideas on those things. They're all, "Sounds great!" I’ve been thinking of a way to approach all my neighbors without tipping any of them off as to who I am or what I may have at home. I know the people who live directly around me, and a few others scattered about the 2 blocks we walk our dog, but not much else. Some show their political colors by flying flags, or yard signs, even vehicles and window decals can aid in profiling, but some have no tells at all. I was thinking of creating a flyer with a little info about emergency preparedness and an “unidentifiable to me” email address to solicit interest and start planning. We could even keep things anonymous until things went extra sideways.

I read Black Autumn shortly after it was released and joined Readyman as soon as I learned of it. What I found most interesting about the book was how it centered around the LDS community and their duty of having 1-years worth of food storage and that most failed to prepare even though it is a pillar of their belief. There were some gritty lessons in the compound protection and each persons roles and responsibilities.

Most people are unaware of their surroundings. If you think you are aware, and live with another person, play a game. Have the other person changes something small in the main room (when the other person isn’t there), make a game of it. See how long it takes to develop an eye for minuscule changes. This is a great way to begin to train your brain for noticing change. You will then find yourself noticing small clues out in public. Do you notice clothing bulges? NOT only good peeps carry. Learn to notice instantly, or you will appear to be checking someone out. Quick glances keep you low profile. But again, this takes building up the brain’s pathways, so see if you can’t develop this through small games in your own home to build those pathways in your brain. Becoming alert is a consciously developed skill.

There is a lot of value in creating a team/ support group, but there is also a significant difference in a community group founded on similar interests vs. a SF team. The community group hasn't gone through SFAS or any screening process, and finding those who will commit to the group while ensuring that the group is the right environment for them is challenging. I'm struggling to find like minded folks rather than those who simply have an interest that focuses on surviving. Every discussion is a risk to my operational security.

It will be hard to trust people. My local neighbors are drug dealers, alcoholics, and a couple that think financing 3 cars and being broke makes them look rich. 90 percent of people in general have huge flaws that make them tough to recruit.
@jam74534 жыл бұрын
@Thesilverbullitt ~ I understand what you’re saying. I’m sure that may be the same for other people. It’s a little hard to not judge people some when trying to build a group with your neighbors. It’s great to build a strong neighborhood & community but you may not want them to be a part of your group for whatever reason(s). Weigh your options & try to use common sense but also don’t discount someone completely simply because of their lifestyle choices. They may end up being an extremely valuable asset just as you may be to them. It’s also a good idea to have reliable people to look out for you/watch your back, your property & belongings.

Very interesting video! I agree with a lot of things discussed here. One of the most difficult things I personally have struggled with, is in building relationships, strengthening community or just “trust” in general. What are some things that will help someone step outside of their comfort zone and reach out to others? One fear is that you reveal personal information to someone, only to have them use that information in a negative way.
@farmsteadpreps5 жыл бұрын
Dont revile your personal information right away. We all have to use our instincts on trust. You never really know someone EVER. Maybe your kids at first. People are changing throughout their lives. You may feel you can trust someone at some point, but not now for whatever reason. Be kind, be loving, be giving in all ways and just hope the same is returned. Coming from a person who has been done dirty by many people, I'm still kind, loving, and giving, but I don't trust. Something I need to work on. Just my opinion. 😁 Good luck! 👍

That you will have to do as you go. People will have to do jobs they are skilled or efficient at vs what they like. They can learn what they like after their job is complete for the day. Me and 2 friends went camping last weekend. We found out real quick I'm a better hunter, gatherer, fisher than the other two. One could move a mountain but had no finesse for finer tasks such as shaving wood and managing an efficient fire but could break branches with no tools. And the third was best at coordinating the tasks and maintaining order in the camp. He knew what we needed, how much, and how to keep a detached position and do what needed to be done at camp. And a good knowledge of emergency first aid in a wilderness enviroment for what we needed that night. It was only one night but we survived. We ate good and some wild edibles we knew about. We didn't get cold. Had coffee and packed up camp. And we are going again. You learn as you go on that matter. Find what they are good at. Get them to do it. And vwala you will survive as long as everyone can learn from one another.

I think people focus on buying guns, food and supplies much more than anything else, it’s a good thing to have all of that stuff but that’s not enough. People should work on some empty handed skills and lots of verbal judo skills too, (trust me some verbal judo can sometimes save you from dangerous situations ) you can end up running out ammo or your guns get jammed or stolen from you, your supplies can be lost to flooding or fire etc.. it’s crucial to get as much knowledge as you can now , how to survive on minimal gear, how to treat yourself in case you get sick using medicinal plants that exist in the wild (there are books on amazon with the picture of the plant and what is good for), for instance Senna leaves work like magic on constipation lol, just don’t rely too much on buying pills which will expire or could become poisonous under high temperatures. Becoming self reliant is more about having a lot of knowledge and minimal gear than having a lot of gear and minimal or no knowledge. Knowledge is power, you will be able to turn anything you find around you into something useful to keep yourself and your family alive.

If SHTF, big time. The biggest threat is a threat you can't see. Being inside an area with the enemy next to you, (who blend in with others due to the way they're dressed for eg), is danger close. The only person you can trust is yourself, but hold diligence to those you would give your life for, (people can change in high stress), know what you're capable of doing, (what skills do you have for yourself, others and the environment), know how to get out of tight situations and what makes you comfortable, (eg have exit routes, does the environment around you feel safe). Don't get yourself into a situation you can't get out of, (keep distance from the unknown). To much adrenaline can over stimulate your brain, that's where things can go wrong. Remember, someone else will have the same idea as you, so stay at least two bounds ahead. Also, don't stay in loc for to long, you need to know a plan B, C, D and emergence plans before leaving to get to plan A, (emergence plans can be reused or blueprinted), be alert and ready with a clear mind. Keep safe.

To my understanding The US Army Special Forces (Green Berets) are Organizers, Facilitators, Instructors, Administrators and Ambassadors usually assigned to Indigenous People in distant lands. They build organized groups to improve existing conditions. Yes, they execute Combat Operations when necessary. But generally they are Advisors. Usually a SF soldier is fluent in at least 2 foreign languages, and are cross-trained in at least 2 specialties ( such as Intelligence, Communications, Medical, Construction,etc etc). In a bizarre way think of them as Peace Corps with machine guns.

Your understanding is wrong! They conduct....special reconnaissance, direct action, guerilla warfare, counter terrorism, counter proliferation, foreign internal defense, search and rescue, counter insurgency...they have scuba teams (combat divers), halo teams , commanders in extremist force companies. Never say they are peace corps, administrator, facilitator, organizer or anything other than Special Forces, in fact, never comment about what you don't know about.

I think the hobbiest who enjoy prepping and gear over shadow what's actually needed and logical. It's a giant industry and has become consumerrish. That's not a word I know. Resourcefulness is what you'll need more then anything. Educating yourself is more powerful then any gear. You can make something out of nothing and capitalise on what little you do have to make it go alot further. You don't need a dozen guns, you don't need 20 knives and truck loads of the latest tactical packs and gadgets. You know whose going to survive the apocalypse? People Like the German minonites, traditional Muslim, traditional European paganist, pore country folk ect. They know how to do without money. They no how to avoid chaos and know how to work with neighbors to help each other survive. They know how to keep from drawing attention to themselves, they are disciplined in conservation of food and know how to farm it. 7 billion people cannot expect to be hunter gathers and survive or have longevity there is not enough wildlife that could breed naturally to keep up with that vastness of consumption. You need to know how to farm and grow shit. So if you got a 1000 dollars spend it on being taught Bush craft or farming/gardening. Stop buying every little thing. You are your greatest tool, without knowledge from thousands of years of experience your nothing more then a glorified chimp with a hatchet, shooter and rope to tangle yourself up in.

During Hurricane Maria people in cities and suburbs did way better than people in the country. Especially related to crime.

You're prepping for the future before you've taken control of the present. Refocus
