This movie is loosely based on the events of Operation Postmaster, and the real life members of No. 62 Commando or the Small Scale Raiding Force (SSRF). A British Commando unit of the British Army during the Second World War. The unit was formed around a small group of commandos under the command of the Special Operations Executive (SOE). They carried out a number of raids before being disbanded in 1943. Apparently, the remaining surviving members of the SSRF were reassigned into the SAS and SBS in late 1943 and early 1944. Sadly, the real-life people this movie's characters are based on all ended up getting killed by war's end.

The book The Ministry of Ungentlemanly conduct is truly excellent and goes into this operation postmaster more closely and makes more sense than he movie. The key to suspending realism in a film is to make it seem as if that unrealness feels real. Magic should be naturally accepted by the viewer without questioning the fact that they have left reality. It is unreal, but it feels real. Fun fact. Calvill's character married Eiza Gonzalez's character and died six weeks later in an operation in France. She became a movie star after the war.

5:45 As I understand it(and I am not a doctor) TRT is supposed to be about maintaining normal human amounts of testosterone to combat the effects of aging or hormone issues vs unnatural amounts that exceed the spectrum of what any human creates naturally. In other words, you're not supposed to have typical steroid user bodybuilding levels of testosterone, even from a doctor. Does it happen? Yes. People use the veil of TRT and then supplement on top of it to get massively jacked in 40s and 50s that otherwise is simply not possible. It's illegal to use steroids, so no one with brains is going to come out and just be like 'yep, I use tren'.

No, it's not based on the Commandos: it's based on the origins of the Special Air Service, a separate unit, within the British Army. Granted, many original members came from Commando units but they were decidedly, and deliberately, not the same thing. For context, a rough parallel would be conflating US Army Rangers with Green Berets.
@Stretch19319 күн бұрын
According to historical accounts, the real Operation Postmaster was executed with minimal resistance and bloodshed. The commandos, led by Gus March-Phillipps, encountered very little opposition during their mission. The operation was completed in under 30 minutes, with no reported casualties or intense combat situations.

There is a book of the same name which this movie is loosely based on and based on Operation Postmaster too. The group was put together by Brigadier Colin Gubbins who was head of the Special Operations Executive the famous SOE. He was a Scotsman who had learned a huge amount about guerilla tactics fighting the IRA before and during WW1 and was so impressed with the IRA tactics that he went to the top military brass in WW2 to say we could complete effective operations against the Nazis and general German military. It was his plan when the British used guerilla tactics s in Norway training some Norwegian soldiers who had gotten out of Norway S the Nazis took over. The Norwegians were trained at high commando level like the first British Army Commandos who were all trained at special camps in North West Scotland. Some British soldiers were trained to help the Norwegians and the idea was to cause havoc against the Nazis and then train other Norwegians in guerilla tactics s too. The chaps who are depicted in the Heroes of Telemark Movie from 1965 show the destruction of heavy water facilities in Norway. Heavy water was needed to create atomic weapons and Norway had a hydroelectric plant which was the only place Germany could get this water from. So Gubbins and the SOE planned what had to be done. And they trained other Norwegians who had escaped to the UK and volunteered for the chance to get back at the Germans. Now this is an incredibly important operation. Because the Germans were pretty close to making their atomic weapons. These men were incredible and even the hea y water that had already been produced was hunted down by one of the members of the group who ha found out some had already been produced and had been moved from the hydroelectric dam but he and the Norwegian resistance forces sank the ferry the remaining heavy water was to be shipped on. The thing that was rather annoying about this movie is that Gubbins did indeed have a direct line to Churchill but Gubbins was most definitely Scottish yet Cary Elwes plays him as an Englisman which is fine but the biggest influence and the main reason the Special Operations Executive exists is due to Brigadier Colin Gubbins. Anyhoo. The movie was fun but get the book because it covers so much Ire about some incredible inventions and innovations completed by the British during this time.

Please keep Abels creative filmmaking input as a part of all video you guys do! Also btw, Sean to be fair to the movie. Larsen (Alan) did actually kill of 2 foot patrols with 2 guys in each outside the perimeter of the base and also killing the guard in the watchtower and since the base was quite small and apparently right then hosted a meeting or a training of sorts, I totally buy that they could just walk in after that. Also they did identify the biggest weapon on the base being the AA gun which they took control over which ment after that the Nazis was pretty muck foooked. Regarding the cutting out the heart stuff. There is a reason why the Brits feared the Vikings so much. Vikings didn't just kill, they went above and beyond and no Brit in their right mind wanted to face them.

Another thing that is great about this movie is that they got actual native German speakers for all the German dialogue, which an international audience may or may not pick up on, but as a German speaker nothing is more jarring than someone trying to fake speaking German or doing a fake accent. It's very common in lower budget productions and it just shows attention to detail that they got native speakers. Also funny tidbit, the Stieglitz actor, Til Schweiger, is relatively famous in Germany and has done a ton of movies here, both starring and directing, including a bunch of pretty successful romantic comedies and also tried a become a domestic action star a while back. Though he's mostly pretty corny and terrible in his domestic roles and only good in international roles, funnily enough.
