Green cheek conure care ( GCC) breeding is a very interesting thing to do but some things as to be considered and put in place for successful breeding. After getting your GCC breeding pair it is important to inspect them. They will need to be healthy, over 10 months, and well bonded. If they are from the same family, it is best to split them up and introducing another make or female to breed from.

This parrot has a grey beak, green cheeks, white periophthmalmic rings, and a crown that is brown, black, and grey. The long tail of the conure has a dark red coloration. It also has splashes of red and yellow, making it quite a colorful creature.
The green cheeked conure has weigh anywhere from 60 to 80 grams on average, measuring around 26 centimeters or 10 inches long.
Green Cheek Conure parrot Lifespan:
If properly taken care of, the green cheek conure can live up to 30 years in captivity. Unfortunately, this bird has an average life expectancy of 10 years. This is due to the fact that many people who own this bird do not take very good care of it.
Types of Green Cheek Conures:
There is really only one type of green cheeked conure, but there are numerous varieties due to mutations from selective breeding of green cheeked conures.
Some of these variations of green cheek conure include:
American Dilute green cheek conure : This particular variety of the green cheeked conure has cream-colored feathers. It has dark eyes and feet, which make for a fairly stunning contrast.
Yellow sided green cheek conure: These conures have a lighter shade of red on the tail, and a bright yellow chest.
Cinnamon green cheek conure: There is also the cinnamon conure, which primarily consists of green. This bird does, however, have a tannish colored head that sets it apart from the others.
Pineapple green cheek conure: This mutation makes for a very interesting look. The head of the bird is a light brown, while the sides are bright yellow. These birds are known for their red eyes.
Turquoise green-cheeked conure: These birds are known for being larger than any other variety of the green cheeked conure. They have grey feathers on their chest and tail, but with mostly bluish green plumage.
Green Cheeked Conure Care Guide
1. Green Cheeked Conure Diet
Green cheeked conures that are kept in captivity should have a diet similar to their wild brethren. This includes a combination of seeds, vegetables, fruits, and even insects. It is very important that you give your bird high quality pellets to keep it healthy.
Pellets should make up anywhere from 60-70% of your bird’s total diet. You can also give them the occasional fortified seeds and other foods mentioned above.
2. Environment
If you are going to keep one of these birds, you will need to have an appropriately sized cage. The enclosure should not be smaller than 25 square inches. Make sure that the bars on the cage are spaced one half inch apart.
Keep in mind that these birds tend to thrive when they are put together with another green cheeked conure. It is not a good idea to put a bird of a different species in with one of these though.

Love your videos! I’m just starting into breeding GCCs! I have a pineapple female and plan to get a pineapple male I believe, I’m finding pineapple males are hard to find! I also have a Turquoise pineapple female and pick up a beautiful regular turquoise male tomorrow! I’m starting with 2 young pairs. I’d love to ask you some questions! I only use that size cage foe weaning babies. My birds all mu green cheeks breed in flight cages 4 ft long 4=5 ft high 3 ft deep These are very active birds Please consider upgrading your breeding cages

you cant just pit two birds together These birds colors are achieved by genetic mutation If you breed to genetic mutations you get bad anomalies like balding and drop eye and worse . You can breed a cinnamon to everything but you have to know the genetics of your birds in order to pair them ! There are very detailed breeding charts on line to help you breed properly, please research before you do anything .

I found your comment by happenstance. WOW!! you nailed it. I bought a high red off a dude and i imagine this is whats happened with poor breeding practices... this poor lil bird is bald as a babys ass and has a little droopy squinted eye. How old are GCC when they stop breeding?

I’ve had a pair of conures since they were 3-4 months old. One is a month older than the other one. Both DNA sexed male and female. How old should they be before I start breeding them? It’ll be my first clutch as well.

I personally suggest and recommend getting young and bonding them. This way you know they are healthy and proven. I know this length process but in long term you always come out better with beautiful strong and healthy parrot babies. Hope it helps. 🙂

You can breed two types of conure eg pineapple x Green cheek the babies won't mix colours tho they either be pineapple or green cheek.

Hi. I bought a gcc pair over a year ago. They guy I bought them from used them for breeding but they still haven't started for me. I have a nest very similar to yours. They sleep in it so the time but I don't see any signs of them starting to breed. Any ideas?

@@BirdAndbeyond It is a flight cage for finches. A bigger cage is needed for Conures. Ask a bird store (that sells only birds) what is best, not Amazon. Not trying to be rude, I just think you should look into it and you will know the right cage. Kings cages are nice and they have good size cages for Conures. For breeding I would ask your local bird store what cage is best.
