I have 2 sun conures ones quite old and ones quite young,the older got his wings cut b4 but his feathers are tidy and healthy while the younger ones feathers are not cut but they aren’t really healthy or tidy and either one of them is losing their tail feathers,it dropped 2 beautiful tail feathers already and one of them is losing a little of their other small feathers too so is it ok or should I do smth

My sun conure is loosing feathers in her tail, but it’s because her wings are clipped, and she tries to jump off of me, like when she does not want to be put away. So, they get knocked losses and then they fall out. Is that good our bad? Can I stop this from happening?

Entjik, my sun conure has no tail feathers and his wings are clipped (not my choice I am waiting for them to grow). He keeps rupturing the blood tail feathers. Today he broke two of them. I had to pull them to stop the bleeding. I've taken him two the vet twice before for the same reason. They gave me an ointment to apply on him, but that does not help. Can you please provide any insight? Thanks!

Hi Julianna. It sounds something is stressing your conure. He is trying to tell you something like, he hates where he stays in the house, other pet, or something near by is bothering him. You may want to find a better avian vet. Does he have a big cage? Maybe he is lonely. Buying a budgie may help.

Entjik Jeffrie Thanks for your reply! Yes he has a pretty big cage. And we give him lots of attention as he is our only pet. I thought maybe he doesn’t like the feeling of growing out new feathers? Because when he broke his tail he was on the play top of the cage and I was next to him on my computer. I should consider getting a budgie. Except that my conure gets very defensive with anyone. He only like my mom, sister, and I. He hates my dad and anyone else around him. He gets all fluffy and starts to attack. I think he see other ppl as a threat to his “flock” which mom sister and me.

Congratulation! I am glad that you are to provide another bird a good and loving home. Green cheek conures are very needy bird hehe, they are very easy to bond. Polly didn't need any taming at all. She would come to us and just love to hang out with us all day hehe. I love buying birds too, every time I go to a pet store, I want to adopt them all hahaa, enjoy your new conure soon! :)

Your bird will be in shock for a while, keep watching her. If she gets better, she will be fine. If she becomes weaker, take her to an avian vet.
