The little robot character was a nod to R2D2, so that dates this clip to after 1976.

It's ok, everyone knew it was from 1980, because it has the fake R2D2 in it? That puts it past 1978, and it came out even later in the UK, because of our censors and they just liked taking ages to show films over here sometimes. Even that detail temporises it better without having to resort to the DVLA, but so does the Mark IV Cortina, although the fake R2D2 is more obvious and recognisable a fact to the casual viewer.

I remember this as if yesterday, I used to do the green cross code however I forgot one day as I was excited to spend my 10p monthly pocket money on a finger of fudge to give myself a treat I stepped into the path of a datsun 120Y was nearly run over Mr Donny Osram my neighbour ploud into the back of the car as it braked to avoid me he was flung about 100yds down the street his motorbike was ruined the car driver was jolly cross and knocked his teeth out I was lucky that day I always remember that day and I always use the green cross code I think it should be brought back into schools to avoid accidents and your neighbour needing false teeth.

thanks for uploading all these i have vague memories of seeing these on tv as a small child in the late 70s and early 80s and it was good to see them again. it makes me wonder why we don't have any public information adverts today in the UK. i remember one that was about change lanes at traffic lights, in the advert the 20year old ish son and new driver had to explain to his dad that he had changed lanes at traffic lights and someone had run into the back of his car fairly sure it was a cartoon advert any chance you got that one?

I agree.. A drivers license you only be valid in the country that issued it. It may be an annoyance to take a driving test every where you go but it would insure that folks adhered to the local laws. I saw an episode of "Cops" once where a Mexican immigrant was pulled over for running a red light he said " I swear officer, the light was BLUE!!" lol I know he meant green but its still hilarious.
