This is when Greenday was Greenday. Those were the days! But I have to hand it to them, they remained with all their original band members except the drummer, but we can over-look that because Tre was in the lineup before they really got famous and stuck with them all of this time. This band was original and didn't sound like every other band out there when they first came out, they were a breath of fresh air to many people. Billie's voice was different (and still is but isn't the same as it was when they first came out) and it lead a generation to a new era of something fresh and new. Billie Joe Armstrong was seen quoting this, and I believe it is an accurate description: "I sound like an Englishman, impersonating an American, impersonating an Englishman." These guys have put out countless albums and did not fizzle out of existence like the other bands did around this time. Now they are in the rock n' roll hall of fame, although their music became a little off to me, they keep going with hits. They have survived the test of time, and not many bands can say this, so good on them. These guys influenced SO many bands around this time period with his (Billie's) stance, his stage presence and his overall demeanor. Dookie took the world by storm and bridged so many gaps (whether that is good or not is up to you.) I remember this was back when tapes were still in, the popularity of CD's hadn't really come to fruition yet. Everyone had that tape on repeat everywhere you went, and I know that I was completely obsessed with them. This particular song brings back countless memories (good and bad), as the whole album Dookie was the soundtrack to my teen years of puberty and teen angst. Those were the days, simplicity and everyday careless nonsense, the 90's, we will never get them back and that is a sad feeling. But... I guess we shouldn't live in the past though.
