This was my first Green Day song. In 1995, I was like 14 when I fell asleep on the couch, in turn, MTV was watching me and see saw how board I got then decided to wake me up with a catchy tune with singing voice that was distinctively unique. In fact, this was one of the first that got me listing to rock music. I'm 40 now and still include at least one Green Day song on anything I slap together. I just only wonder why they never perform this song and any of their live shows. They will perform Basket Case, but not Walking Contradiction. It would be nice if they give me an answer to this.

Well that's what the song's about: Everyone trash-talking about them because they 'sold out' after releasing Dookie, and them just not giving a shit. And of course, you can see some hints that they've become loaded with money (like the golden fist in the car and their suits) and they just don't seem to care. They became a 'walking contradiction': A popular Punk band. No one thought it was possible and many people were outraged because Punk became mainstream and because of that, many people turned their backs to Green Day. But as awesome as they may be, they lasted to this date, remaining a walking contradiction. :)
