The government's green energy plans have been dealt a blow after firms snubbed an auction for contracts to run new offshore wind sites.
The Shadow Minister for Industry and Decarbonisation, Sarah Jones, described it as "an absolute disaster".

Existing energy companies are allowed to make huge windfall profits, but new energy is hardly given a crumb to survive on, what a government

How to destroy the seabed and all living its creatures environment for a completely useless/inefficient and more polluting power generation system: not only it destroys the seabed and distubs lives, but the maintenance of such ridiculous infrastructure requires a fleet of gas guzzling boats that operates 24/7!

Expecting firms to pay for licences to set up offshore windfarms is just daft. The government should be offering the licences for free or even paying the companies to set them up. The set up costs of a wind turbine is huge, to run cables to the national grid is another cost, largely because they have to run along the sea bed. If we ever wish to achieve energy sufficiency and be as green as possible then the government needs to take a different view and act.
