Good movie showing what the reality was for returning Vietnam vets - and it was worse for others. They got paid less than $1,000 for a year of active duty and came home to disrespect and deflated veteran benefits, a recession with few jobs. For us, Vietnam was something we saw on television. For the vets, Vietnam was real life in color with memories and feelings. What a mess.

I'm a child of the 70's and was in elementary school when this came on TV. This brings back a lot of memories. My dad was a Vietnam vet and I listened to him randomly talk about his tour there. I remember seeing the trailer on TV and told my Dad about it. I was too young to understand the concept of all of it. For me it was just a movie about Vietnam and he was over there. He sat and watched it with me. He randomly commented throughout it saying "Yep that's how those kids come up to you. Through it all he watched it in silence. Now I look back and can carry that special memory of watching that with him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Winfield in New York City in 1986 while he emerged from a side door from a play he'd been in with Denzel Washington and Ruby Dee called "Checkmates". He was kind, and personable making a great impression on me that I've never forgotten. "Green Eyes" always keeps my tissue supplies extremely low and my appreciation for the plight of children in Vietnam and third world countries front and center. Great film!
