Sure. Except the right thing depends on your perception of what's right and wrong, which is subjective. One man's perception of right and wrong in the eyes if another. There's only one true source of right and wrong, an objective source, which is obviously God. Now it's up to you to decide by asking those with knowledge which religion you cling to.

@xavierthomas5835
@xavierthomas5835 4 ай бұрын
As i mused on this quote, i realized the fatal flaw to Goblin's quote. It only works if you only ever operate in the realm of achievement by approval. If, however, your goal is to complet your goal, whether you gey approval or not, it cannot matter less who agrees with you or not. Which is the weakness of Spiderman. Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman. His most used nickname is the one that shows you that often he cares too much what others think about him doing what's right.
@jpjfrey5673
@jpjfrey5673 2 ай бұрын
@@xavierthomas5835like it or not, approval of the world is important. You do the right thing but get chased by the police - makes doing the right thing harder. They might sic someone who can stop you from doing the right thing on you. The bad image, if your identity is discovered, spills over onto it, making *living* a problem. And you can't do the right thing if you can't live. Heroes/people cannot exist outside of a society while helping it at the same time. You either aren't interacting with it at all or you're part of it. What you're saying is not realistically achievable
@xavierthomas5835
@xavierthomas5835 2 ай бұрын
@jpjfrey5673 it is realistic if doingthe right thing IS your life. Sure, it might be undeniable that you have to live in society, but to people who live with great power to do things, acting as though you can't do then is worse than fighting against the government. Living with a guilty conscience is certainly worse than living in continuous battle against the powers that be.

@@xavierthomas5835 This definitely plays into the second movie. Peter realizes how his super life is affecting his personal life. And because his powers are disappearing on him, he decides to take a break. I hope in Toms universe they do the Hob Goblin and play into it like the whole movie is about finding out who he is cause Tom hates and is afraid of the green goblin. Goblin is right, and that's what makes him such a compelling villain. You understand his motivations, because he had everything taken from him. Not only did he have his company stolen from him, but he was also forced to give up valuable time with the son he loved because of it. He felt like the world had betrayed him despite everything he did for it. The Goblin is the very personification of this idea of hatred brewing within Norman Osborn. But I think Peter's response to Goblin's question is just as beautiful and legendary. "Because it's right." It doesn't matter what we're going through. It doesn't matter the power we have. We can ALWAYS choose to do the right thing. And that's exactly what Peter does. It's what SPIDER-MAN does. It's why Goblin was ultimately wrong in both Spider-Man 1 and No Way Home. Because both Peters did the right thing and rejected Goblin's evil philosophy, their goodness overcame Goblin's evil. Spider-Man is a beautiful tale of good triumphing over evil even when choosing evil and rejecting good would be so much easier. It's about choosing to always do the right thing because you are given the power to do so. Not because of what people will think about you, or if they will hate you. But because you KNOW it's right. With great power comes great responsibility.

If those power were what we considered to be "evil "& they taught us to be "evil" over time then most people would be "evil". What's acceptable is all based on power. This is a haunting quote that serves as a perfect example of what makes Goblin so terrifying. Yes he's essentially a terrorist with super strength and access to sci fi levels of military grade technology but he is first and foremost a manipulator. He actively attempts to gaslight Peter into believing that being a hero will 1) prove pointless in the end and 2) result in innocent lives being lost. The only thing stronger than Goblins urge to kill and destroy is his need for absolute control over anything he deems a threat to his power.

What’s also really creepy in this scene is that he’s using a relatively normal, subdued tone of voice. In my memory, Goblin was always hamming it up and gravely and hoarse, like in NWH when he says “can the Spider-Man come out to play”. So it’s jarring to come back and see him speaking so calmly. Yes he still has a sinister tone of voice, but it’s so subdued and his body language, his eyes, his mannerisms are so subdued here. This is when he is pulling all the stops to manipulate and gaslight Peter, and this is when he doesn’t mess around. It’s like in The Dark Knight when The Joker was called a freak by Gambol, he lost his sentence and got really quiet, before refocusing. Or when he was completely stumped and quiet when the people of Gotham refused to kill each other. Or when Thanos was meek and humble when trying to reconnect with Gamora during his “a small price to pay for salvation” scene. It’s scenes like this that show a person for villain for who they truly are. And this shows that the Goblin isn’t just a terrorist or a supersoldier gone wrong. He’s a demon who is not playing around when he’s devoting himself to his biggest goal in life - to corrupt, to destroy people from the inside. Whether it’s twenty years ago or today in theaters, the Green Goblin deserves ranking alongside the likes of Thanos, Heath’s Joker, Kilmonger, etc.

Felt the same way too. The scary part of the Goblin's speech it actually makes sense. And the worst part for Peter is that he's struggling to accept that he has a point.

This is what i think is the Goblin's weakness: That he dosen't get across the idea that some people do stuff without seeking any sort of benefit from it. That people do what they do for the sake of others instead of themselves. This why i think he asks "Why bother?". He asks Spidey why he would help people if he isn't getting any benefits or even love or adulation from it. He never once stops to think that Spidey dosen't seek benefits from helping others.

I just don't know how you could hate the Raimi films when they're full of moments like this where the dialogue is more serious and meaningful than 95% of anything in the MCU.
@abehambino

People don’t hate the raimi films, they have a legitimate gripe with ONE of the films. The third one is awful when compared to the first two, yet it does have some redeeming qualities I’ll admit. Harry’s revenge with MJ was particularly entertaining and I love that scene when he reels Peter. I also didn’t hate any of the villains, there was just not enough time to develop them. They could’ve just kept sandman and goblin and left Venom for another film.

@@abehambino I stopped reading on the "the third is worse" because that movie is my favorite and I have seen many analysis and breakdowns of said movie, where people spoke POSITIVELY. What's funny is that I ALWAYS loved the movie, even as a kid. The third movie is a good movie, and a decent Spider Man Movie. Obviously not as good as the first two, but still good nonetheless. For me, even the best of then all.

Spiderman was the first Superhero movie i watched as a child and i truly didn't understand what Goblin was talking about here. Even though the “as children we want to be like the heroes, but as adults we understand the villains” saying has been memed to death it has a point. Especially with well written villains that have more motivation than just being a mustache twirling villain that is evil just for the sake of being evil. Villains with a real human motivation can be relatable at times.
