@John Collins Almost no one in the gaming industry with the funding for a Triple A game is going to put the care and attention into the game that it would need, and executives and sponsors are going to demand changes and compromises for the sake of profitability. The Triple A industry is on a teetering point where they cost too much to be profitable without loot boxes, because the fact that they can have loot boxes means they're more willing to inject extra money into the project. Especially for an open world game with customizable characters, which presents too much opportunity for random unlockable cosmetics and core content locked behind a paywall like the final few missions of the game or something.

@OtakuUnitedStudio4 жыл бұрын
@Trump4Prison2021 It was the executives who were doing something non-stop, not Superman. Specifically, that they were saying what he should and shouldn't do. But even IF they vetoed the "Superman has to collect his powers Metroid style", which is admittedly not a great idea, the fact that he couldn't fight any enemies, use any powers other than strength or flight, and that the game was set in a "virtual reality" world were all orders from higher-ups. WOW - oddly enough im sure that is the game they had me "TEST" as part of my interviews to get a Job as a QA tester at Ocean in 1997. (I did get the Job) - but the game was not exactly an impressive side scrolling action game.. I only remembered it as I had not heard of Green Lantern before that!
@TheZackofSpades4 жыл бұрын
How did you like the QA work? I had a cousin get burned out really fast, he eventually went into IT security and is extremely successful but I remember his disappointment.
@Tarim064 жыл бұрын
@@TheZackofSpades The QA work was something I loved.. I happened to be rather good at it which helped, and of course, I still play games to this day. My main hope with QA was to be able to make the games "better" - offer ideas for game play and related mechanics and see any games I worked on go up against others that were out there.. However - The only one where I know a QA Tester actually got credited for any of that was WETRIX on the N64 ... If you look in the manual my real name is there as I designed and came up with the "Rainbow Multiplier" effect and mechanic. I recently did some work for Milky Tea Games on the PC version of HYPER BRAWL TOURNAMENT .. which is out on most formats now. I just wish companies these days actually had QA testers who knew what they were doing - as it seems far too many just think its "Sitting there and playing a game" rather than actually doing any of the testing work (Just look at the QA list for a Bethesda game). I cannot believe ANY half way competent or decent QA tester would want their names associated with some of the bug-filled abominations released by Bethesda.. but there you go. :)
@TheZackofSpades4 жыл бұрын
@@Tarim06 yeah if you don’t mind me saying so, I think most game companies have “outsourced” QA by giving out “free” beta keys...the company just tries to extract free labor with those “early access” passes...and, as a result, I think the art of QA work is starting to die off. Just my two ¢!!
@Tarim064 жыл бұрын
@@TheZackofSpades Its been "dying off" for years .. infact recently there have been a lot of "Devs react to speed runners" videos - with game devs astonished at how broken and easily bypassed some of their own game engines actually are... however whilst not a all speed running tricks can be tested for ( as the speed running community is a LOT bigger than most outsourced QA bodies) many of the more obvious game breaks are very easy to test for as part of QA done by people who know how to QA. QA was never a skill held in much regard - even at Ocean - with one person memorably saying "testers are nothing more than chimps" or something very similar - its been a few years.. Of course though you are correct in noticing something that is almost self evident these days - QA is not done by QA outsourcing teams - who seem to have no idea what a bug actually is, it is done by the player base when the game is released. Why does anyone think the rise in day 1 or week 1 "patches" are so prevalent ? Notice the size of the 'patch' - its actually the next reassembled version of the game with some fixes in it. :/

18:19 Speaking of that, and to go a bit off-topic… I believe someone who worked on Sonic 2 had mentioned that a fully complete level layout for Wood Zone was created, but never fully implemented (maybe from the level's designer Brenda Ross?)… Based on the hacks that I've seen that includes the level, it seems that the aforementioned concept map has never been publically displayed anywhere. I don't know if I recall the whole deal with Wood Zone, but I don't believe we have any evidence it ever got beyond the small snippet seen in one of the prototypes; at least in terms of what was actually programmed into the game. In terms of gameplay and aesthetic, a 16-bit Green Lantern game would be awesome, but in terms of story, the 90's weren't a great time to do it. In the modern era, Green Lantern's mythos is largely defined by the emotional spectrum and the various Lantern Corps, which didn't exist back then (Star Sapphire had yet to be retconned into a Violet Lantern). Instead, the 90's Green Lantern books had Hal Jordan's city being destroyed, him killing the entire Corps after they stripped him of his badge, and Kyle Rayner's girlfriend introducing the concept of "Women in Refrigerators".
@DoctorTopper4 жыл бұрын
I actually LIKE the drama of Kyle Rayner issues, and there has been discussion the girlfriend scene was actually not sexism, (but there was lots of other sexism in comics back then). But I agree the interesting civilian life and character drama would not translate well into 16 bit.

A couple of corrections with regards to this comment and the video. In "Emerald Twilight" Hal only killed Kilowog and Sinestro, not the entire Corps. Also, the video indicates that Hal killed the Guardians which is not true, they committed suicide in order to provide the energy to Ganthet, the last Guardian, who used that energy to power a new power battery that was given to Kyle Rayner along with his ring.

So... the comics speculation boom killed the game. Either that, or comics just plain being weird in the '90s.

to bad I feel DC needed more games based on franchises outside of Batman and to a lesser extent Superman...GL,Flash and WW should have been in more games including solo ones...

Here's something that shouldn't be a secret: Most if not all of the imagery from the comics shown is of Green Lantern Hal Jordan, while the Green Lantern pictured as the player character in game is clearly Kyle Rayner.
