OMG … I use to sell newspapers at Lechmere Station as people got off the train at supper time. I was born in Cambridge and went to school there until the 7th grade. That house you see when the train stops at the station .. it looks blue or gray … I lived there as a kid on the 2nd floor … that is Gore St. and before that we lived right around the corner on 2nd Street. Over that stockade fence was the neighborhood I grew up in. We use to throw snowballs over the fence at the trains as the did the loop turn around. My Mom worked at Durrands candy factory which is the building across the street from where people got on the train to go into Boston. Lived in that area from 1955 to 1966. Thanks for the trip down memory lane 👍🏻

This brings back fond memories of taking the Green Line out to the Lechmere T-station, and shopping at the Cambridgeside Galleria with its new Lechmere store, and the old Lechmere's before that. 🥰❤🥰 Thank you for uploading the video.

Good old East Cambridge. growing up there gave me many memories about Cambridge from the 50's to 60's. great video especially the tight turn at the end of the line.

Lechmere Sales. What a great store it used to be on Memorial Drive. TV’s, appliances, cameras. Every modern convenience for the home. That was back in the day when $200 a week was good pay and we never thought we were poor and everyone in your neighborhood knew each other.

On my last visit to Boston in late November 2013, I thought that the extension to College Avenue was already under construction, but when I took the Green Line to Lechmere, the station was still in active use.

Omg! I didn’t know this since I haven’t been to Boston since February 2020. I would always go to Cambridgeside Galleria.

If you go there as of now it's being demolished That's why the sidewalks look bad in Lechmere. *For Six people T charges $14.40 Subway $2.40 base fare Turns out to be $2 10 cheaper than MTA NY Subway $16.50 base fare $2.75*

The MBTA needs an infusion of money to spruce up their stations. Some of them haven't changed much since I moved from Boston 50 years ago. From other videos I've seen, I'm not sure if they've been cleaned since then. ;-)

Hmmm perhaps your roommate would allow a fellow youtuber to record a similar 'cabride' style video some day? That would be very cool. Especially if I got a gopro with a suction cup mount so I could stick it right tto the glass.

1:00 where do those tracks off to the left go? Also where does the middle track that goes under the incline go? Do those lead to loops to turn around trolleys that end at North Station?
@CentralMassRailfan3 жыл бұрын
Idk that would be cool, though!

Those lead to the street level of North Station. They are dead-end tracks that stop about 25 feet short of Causeway Street. I believe those street level tracks are no longer there, but I’m not 100% certain.
@zackboone153 жыл бұрын
@@SciTrekMan There is nothing street level, not since 2004. Those are just siding/turnback tracks, and nothing more.

I wish they were tracks built to accommodate a new branch that would go down under Storrow Drive and Charles Street, and surface at Tremont Street and then run to -Nubian- Dudley Square to replace the Silver Line. PS Why did they rename it Nubian Square? That's so woke! They should have renamed it Malcolm X Square, at least he was from Roxbury in Boston. (Though if they left it Dudley Square I wouldn't have minded.)
