It’s also hard to put this in a demo but in the room this head has a feeling like no other amp I own. It has a *massive* amount of sub-lows which don’t really come through over KZbin or just generally speaking in a recording, though if you’re careful w/ how you deal with a mix you can get a bit of it back. It’s a real rumble machine, which is why I use it as the bassy center of a wet/dry/wet setup. As it’s the master volume version it also has a lot more gain than the cleaner sounding non-master-volume GT120s; i keep meaning to stick a 12AU7 or AT7 or something in V1 to calm it down a bit, but haven’t gotten around to it - the master dimed out and getting the gain just where it breaks up is giving me full volume and sounds good to my ears, so I’m happy. It also sounds COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from an OR120. A lot of people mention Matamp/Green tones in the same breath, but really even though they have some similarities and are definitely in the same family of tones, they sound completely different. It’s like, in a way, they have the same transition from clean to breakup and the same rough texture to their distortion, but the old Oranges are much tighter sounding and less fuzzy. Still fuzzy though. But if you were gonna take one of those old ORs and go nuts trying to boost it with a TC Integrated Preamp/Grind style boost or some shit I bet you could get some ridiculous shit out of it.

One question I have is how does the GT120 handle overdrive/distortion pedals? One of the reasons I wanna get this amp is cause my idea was to use something like a Boss ML-2, or BD-2 with a booster pedal and mix it with the amps natural fuzz to make a harsh but warm tone.
@shealeffler61473 жыл бұрын
@@finallychee4808 i use a Keeley modded DS-1 with the amp set quite clean as my main dirt. When set clean (volume maxed, use drive as your volume to set edge of breakup), it's a bassy and slightly saggy deal that can make any dirt pedal sound massive. With the gain up, you're gonna get Matamp fuzz; no way around that. Anyways, I think you'd have good success with that.

One way you could make it less weird when recording the clean DIs is to perform them on a track in your DAW running an amp model, then exporting the stems without the modelling.

Certainly an interessting way to do demos. How do you think being in the room with the amp would influence your playing though? Mabye a question for your faq, how much does playing different amps influence your playing vs someone reamping your performance. Im all for the power of reamp btw, just a thought

I think it's a neat sounding amp. Would I want to play through it all the time? No... probably not. But it does "a thing" and sometimes that's fun to have around. It's like my collection of pedals. I really prefer to just play straight into an amp, but I also have a bunch of rack gear and pedals to just have fun with.

Cool Amp! I often use a DI Leon provided the Fractal community to test some of my Ax3 presets (to easily get a perspective on the preset tone from someone elses' hands/guitar). Would be great to have more LT Axefx DIs from various guiitars / tumings / styles / target tones. In fact, there may be a market for an LT "DI tones pack" of some sort - I for one would be interested.

I own the same GT120MV but in full green. I play this giant fuzz with a 1991' LesPaul standard and a Matamp Deluxe 4x12 V30 cab. The cab really matters if you want to ride the mammoth. This is my amp for desert rock, stoner etc. The best is to play the GT120 with a Sunn Model T (or the reissue made by Fender in the 90's). So you can get that kind of tone : kzbin.info/www/bejne/mn7FpJ2rYtaGm6c If I want it more in the "doom-metal" way, I use my Rectifiers 2 channels heads, especially the Rev G. Yes Leon, my special recipe for you : on the clean channel, gain at 12 o'clock, bass at 3 o'clock. Rectifiers tubes engaged, spongy mode too. Then engage a Boss FZ-2 Hyperfuzz. Massive ! Of course, I use the Matamp cab with ! This cab doesn't sound like a Boogie with V30 (straight) or a Bogner with V30 (woody), or a Friedman with greenbacks (classic rock). I love this Matamp cab with my Triple Rectifier Rev F for heavy riffs in the way of Crowbar and Corrosion of Conformity. This cab is not good for solos, but it's a must have for rhythm. Last but not least : Leon, the Soldano can do stoner too. I use my old SLO100 with gain at 9 to get the fuzz thing. You should try with a Gibson SG or LesPaul. Just a few things about the Matamp workshop : 2 guyz, at the east of Manchester. You send an e-mail... you wait... no answer. Another e-mail... nothing. Then 6 months later, ooooh thank you, finally an answer. Well you get it : if you want to order a Matamp, you have to learn patience. When the process is engaged, they are really cool. Jeff Lewis taught me how to change the badge (witch is paint by hand), and even how to repair the Mesa tolex ! American vinyl doesn't work like english rexine. They are proud of that. If you go to the workshop, you can watch them working while drinking the coffee and talking with them. And then you understand why they don't read all e-mails... :)

@shealeffler61473 жыл бұрын
I think the DS-1 and Hail Satan were labeled backwards in this clip, the DS-1 was actually the tone at the end and the HSD was only on for a moment. I tend to mix the Matamp with a pair of even more mid-focused and much tighter amps, so it’s cool to have it flub out in the middle and provide the rumble :D
