I've got an electric bicycle. Absolutely whole new experience compared to any internal combustion engine. From what I've experienced, plus seeing this guys application.... I reckon this will definitely be the king of rock crawling! So stop holding out on me..... show me a video of you using this beast doing what you designed it for!!!!!!!! Please....

This is the guy all the real rock crawlers roll their eyes at when they see him show up to all these events and just maneuver his hydraulics up and down.

I saw this thing in person at Tierra Del Sol. It did so well that it kinda took the challenge out of everything lol. It was so so very cool to watch, but alas it just slowly drove over anything and everything with little to no effort. That said, its a frikin amazing piece of engineering. Doc Brown level science right here.

It's so funny looking back on these comments, everyone was so excited for electric vehicles until they started getting popular, now I'm hard pressed to find anybody standing up for electric vehicles anymore

Electric makes so much sense for crawlers, can't spill fluids, mad torque, and silent so you can concentrate on the maneuvers. This thing rocks!

oh cool, I thought you were saying the addition of the electric components added more leakage areas. The complexity of the hydraulic system could definitely be more leaky than a good old straight axle. I didn't catch that it had an engine. thanks again!

thanks to the T.D.S safari, Ive gotten to see both this beast and the "chainlink" rig in action. the last thing this vehicle will do is fall apart or fail on an obstacle. the driver is very good at controlling its arms, and handles everything with ease. he did state that its only weakness is that the electric motors on each wheel lack the torque to make very extreme hill climbs. aside from that, its the most capable rig out there. period.

Needs some kind of lever combiner system so he can group different levers into one for simplified operation. I think that thing is off the chain. I actually can see this being used in other things like construction. Especially how hhe can narrow his wheelbase and adjust his ride height . Quite ingenious.

This thing does still have an engine. The electric power comes from somewhere... similar to a warehouse forklift or a diesel train engine. The engine charges batteries which drive electric motors at the wheels.

I prefer piston power over electric... However, electric motors really do give more torque at an instant. I can't see why you are arguing over it, as the motor type could probably be changed to suit the driver. But, i'm sure we can all admire the main functions of this machine and the fella who built/designed it. I'm not an easily impressed guy, but this kind of concept could (one day) completley change the way we drive. This machine can crawl like a spider... and spiders can get anywhere!

Kind of the NASA approach here. If it was transport for a billion dollars of analytical, communications and nuclear power supply ept, you want to own the challenges of the terrain if you hope to get any data back. Here on Earth, the offroad world still tries to keep at least the tip of one big toe in the technology of four wheels mounted to a frame with limited articulation enhancements. In competition, that levels the playing field a bit, (like pressure limiters on superchargers)in recreational offroading, it keeps the entry level reasonable and as close as your local junkyard.
