🔷 ABOUT US 🔷
We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
I punctured the sidewall of the rear tire on our old Ford 2000 tractor. The tire is old and dry rotted, but needs to be moved while I save up money for new tires. In today's video I test out a sidewall tractor tire patch kit I bought. This is the GlueTread Sidewall Tire Repair Kit / Patch Sidewall Kit.
🔷 INFO FROM GLUETREAD 🔷
Specializing in sidewall puncture repair, GlueTread puncture repair kits allow you to repair a puncture or slice on any tubeless off-road tire without removing the tire from the vehicle! GlueTread sidewall repair solutions are rated up to 40psi and allow you to repair the exterior of your tire! GlueTread puncture repair kits are recommended for use on off-road tires only.
GlueTread is a family owned business that was quite literally started in our garage. The Auble family grew up riding ATV's, using farm equipment and enjoying the outdoors together. When the opportunity was presented to start a business around these passions, we hopped on it! Everyday, we work together to bring products to market that will make your off-road experience more enjoyable and affordable while trying to reduce the number of tires that end up in a landfill. Dave has a professional background in engineering and he's not new to running his own business. Andy's background is in product development where he worked with a team in Salt Lake City, Utah bringing products from concept to shelf in big-box retailers, like Lowe's and Michael's Craft Stores. We pride ourselves on our ability to solve problems within the industry, so if you have a new style tread or a new problem for us, don't hesitate to reach out!
Why GlueTread is the better option:
-GlueTread is more cost effective than buying a new tire.
-GlueTread products are easy to apply.
-GlueTread products dry quickly and bond firmly.
-GlueTread’s method saves time because the wheel assembly can remain on the vehicle.
-GlueTread’s method saves money because there is no cost to remove the tire from the rim.
-GlueTreads’s method extends the life of your current tire to meet the expected life of the vehicle.
-GlueTread’s method does not require special tools.
-GlueTread provides minimum down time because you can repair the tire and return it to normal use the same day.
-GlueTread helps you keep discarded tires out of a landfill.

Hey Sam, you might want to look into putting TUBES in both tires. It seem to me that tractor tires not only hold air but they also use water or at least they use to. I believe that if you use water that requires a special tube. I am doing this from memoir as my Late Father in Law did this for a living for many years. Good Luck I am sure it will work out one way or the other.

I have run tractor tires with tubes and without tubes. For me, tubes worked better. I have run tires with liquid ballast, with cast weights, and without liquid ballast. I found the liquid ballast to be corrosive and quit using it. Some of the new liquid ballast claims to be noncorrosive. I have never used it, so can't comment. I'm not sure what you might be doing that would require ballast, you might be fine with none. Usually ballast is for use with a loader or for heavy pulling. Not sure that you are doing either of those?? You might be able to find used tires. It would be worth asking at your Co-op if they have any or know where there might be used tires. Not an ideal answer but could save some $$ for several years. Would like to see maintance on blue. Good luck.

@@sam-and-angela I've seen people back in the 1980's cut a rubber square out of a tire and drill holes in it and in another tractor tire with a sidewall cut and bolt that rubber square into the inside of the tractor tire using carriage bolts to make patch . The patches lasted until the tires were bald and needed to be replaced ! Never under-estimate the genius of a " poor " farmer . PS = This was on tires that used tubes .

Hey, Sam...actually, this was a FUN video. But, I have/had a thought: Concerning the cost of new tires for your tractor...and knowing that it's gonna be an essential tool for work when winter ends...why not allow US to help you cover that cost? If you had something like a "Buy Sam and Old Blue A Tire" button online, I would gladly start feeding the kitty by sending $100. Maybe if enough of your other almost 95,000 subscribers to this channel would contribute even $.10, just think how soon you could have those new tires bought, set up at the tire store, and installed on your tractor! Shoot, you could be poppin' wheelies out there "before three cats can skin a minnow." I'm serious. If you do something like that, please make several big announcements and keep us posted on the progress of that fund raiser. And, to put a little guilt on you, I'll bet Elijah needs lots of tractor time...and he's getting older each day!

A few yrs ago I stuck a 3 in limb in side of a 13.6/28 tire. Cut a about 8 in square of heavy belting and used maybe 8 carriage head bolts and some kind of glue, don't remember. Covered the bolt heads with a piece of old tube. Put in a new tube and ran it for several yrs. Looking at the outside of tire you could see a giant hole surrounded by 8 nuts. Do what works for you.

1st, you've never heard of a inner tube for the old tire? But - I have tried that exact brand of outside patch on a lg z-turn mower tire. It works fine. I didn't think it would because it's on the area that always flexes as I run very low pressure. I run along and rub a barbwire fence. And I didn't follow the directions - I just globed the glue on. I also have one on another spot that I run a internal patch that I didn't think would hold. I figured 'belt & suspenders' approach would work. I don't think I needed the internal one but I already had the tire off. Good idea to glue in the crack but would have been funny as *&^% if you glued your knife in it. You should patch the other leak.

We just bought a new tractor yesterday. The dealer put the tiller on the tractor unfortunately they didn't adjust it appropriately and since I am new to tractors I didn't notice. I ended up making big slices on both back tires from the sides of the tiller. It didn't damage the inside of the tire but left cut marks in the tread. I don't know if this would help??😂 I still haven't told my husband.... You may never hear from me again 😢

Is the rim cracked that is holding the tire you were trying to repair? Maybe it is just some dark fluid that has dripped down the rim.
@PaganWizard
@PaganWizard Жыл бұрын
While inner tubes will help preserve the life, if your rims are rusting, as the rusty areas grow, they become rough and jagged, which "can" cause a puncture on your inner tube. It would most likely be best for you to get new rims WITH your new tires. I understand that it means having to spend more now, than having to spend even more money later. If you hold off on getting new rims, with your new tires, until you can afford the investment, vs, having to replace the rims later, you won't have to pay for dismounting and remounting the tires a second time.
@edwardbrowns8436
@edwardbrowns8436 Жыл бұрын
Something like this is just to get the tractor back home from the field to actually replace the tire. If you try to keep it on and work it, one rub from a field stone or whatnot on the patch could rip it right off. There's no real REPAIR for tire sidewalls. Tires flex, and the sidewall flexes the most.

Kids please sit in the seat when you start your tractor. Loaded tires can eat up wheels depending on the compound used to fill them. If you tubed up get the rims after the tires are removed. Descale smooth and paint them on the inside real good. All rust chunks welding slag and burrs need to go away. They will chew a hole in your tube. And lots of baby powder between the tube and tire. They like to weld together if not. Good luck with the old tractor. Nothing to see here. I talk to myself infront of cameras all the time........Thanks and have fun.

Have you considered having the tires foam filled. Even doing the new tires is a way to make sure you never have a flat again. I have seen the rubber worn off completely and running on the foam. That was on a loader doing heavy construction. As for the patch I am convinced to get one so when I am cruising around off road, I won't have to fear ripping a sidewall, as much.

Patching the outside is a bad idea and that kit is worthless junk. The outer rubber layers of a tire are vulcanized for durability but the inner layer is a soft butyl layer which is less permeable to air. A proper large multi-layer re-enforced patch would do a much better job on that tire injury if installed correctly on the inside where it can chemically bond its butyl layer to the butyl layer in the tire after it's scraped down to clean fresh material. In addition, the cyanoacrylate glue used to bond that chunk of vulcanized rubber on cures to a brittle state. It would not survive the flexing of the tire for long. Proper patches are directionally re-enforced so they bend easily in one direction and are marked so the flex is correctly aligned to the sidewall.

Patch it from the inside. The flex of the tire will pinch the tube on the inside. Plus if your tire was losing air, your tube was punctured. There's life left in those tires, they will have to be broken down for the repairs.

On the road vehicles you can't put an inner tube inside of them because of heat buildup. I don't know if they make heavy duty innertubes for tractors or how often a tractor tire gets punctured to make a tube a pain to use. But a tube might get you some more work out of it for a short period of time.

Hey Sam, you can actually get new tubes for the tires at Tractor supply store or even Amazon, roughly $100.00 for two tubes and put in now. Probably last about 3-5 years or so. Just an idea.
