🔷 ABOUT US 🔷
We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In today's video we use our AHM mini excavator with Kubota diesel engine to dig trenches for our off grid solar project. However, during the use our track falls off so we get to show you how to install a mini excavator track and how to adjust track tension on a mini excavator as well as trenching. Let's go!

Those tracks stretch some under use, maybe a maintenance factor is checking track tension?

Another nice working together video learning life skills and spending quality time. A suggestion for you is to use a block of wood between the pendulum and wheel or a heavy rubber faced model.

Sam, next time use a jack to move the idler. A bottle jack or a scissor jack will keep you from damaging the idler with your "pendulum device". You could even use your car jack between the idler and the blade.

Do those treads stretch with usage and require re tensioning? I love watching the boys work. Takes me back to when mine were small. I told them lots of the things in that song. It’s funny how they change as they grow watching them find their way is exciting and hard as a momma all too soon they grow up and leave home.

Good job Sam, by chance did you tighten up the other track when you got the 'wandering' track back in its correct position? If the first track stretched enough to loosen up and pop off, maybe the other one should be tightened up a bit. I really doubt if those tracks are of a high quality like Cat or Volvo that they are going to standup as long. HAPPY TRAILS!

2 things, never put your hand under a suspended load. You took off the access plate for the tensioner then proceeded to put your hand under the track as you didn’t have good access with a big wrench. Use the right tools. Socket set. Had a line blown, you’d be pinned and possibly lose that hand. Use a socket wrench next time and only got through the access panel. Or use dunnage then go under. Not trying to shit on you, I love your content, just trying to save your hand or fingers in case the worst happened. Next is just smacking that front idler as you mentioned with a hammer. Wood or wiggle then kick. These things crack so easy with the type of metal they use. Great video.

When laying out the path to dig, plan your corners to be exact 45° or 90°. Makes it lots easier to connect the conduit. Be sure to lay "CAUTION" tape at 1' below grade over the conduit. (Like the septic company DIDN'T do). Thanks for the video.

probably be a good idea to put a toolbag with the escavator with all the tools you need , i can immagine being at work some distance away from civilisation so to say and having the tools needed at hand saves you a lot of walking back and forth and possibly even a long drive theres allso a chance that those rubber tracks stretch over time and that ione of the regulair maintanance items wiould be to retuiighten them kindah wonder why you didnt dug the ditch maibe even layed the cable and closed it up befiore installing the panels, using the wooden structure as a guide you wouldve know where the cables needed to go
