Which AQUARIUM LIGHT Should You Choose? | Chihiros Light SHOOTOUT

It would be nice to have a green aqua guide on how to tune our rgb Bluetooth lights. It's really cool to be able to tune your light exactly to what pleases your eyes, but nowadays we're a bit lost with all the choice and it's easy to give too much or too little light to your tank. It would be cool to have a guide that says "for this height and this kind of plant set/ aquascape, you need 65%red, 45%green, 50% blue. If your have only epiphytes, go down to x%. If you have 45% of bottom area covered with sand, do this, etc. It could even cover the RGB ratios to aim for if you want to reproduce ADA's spectrum / render, etc. Anyway, nice and useful video, thanks! Edit: just saw the end of the video, so lol. Still I maintain that you could give baselines that would be very helpful. And if I allow myself a little criticism, the tip given at the end of the video is borderline dangerous for beginners. If you use a preset on a wrb2 pro, even if you tune I down by 5%, you'll "burn" your tank pretty quickly unless it's very deep. It's a very powerful light, so the presets are way too high for most tanks.

We used to get dense carpets on T8 tubes. All these lights are capable of getting great growth. Dont let light snobbery get in the way of basics. Lighting is way more powerful and penetrating than it used to be.

Totally true, I found a wrgb2 for an absolute steal. Very pleased. Keep your eyes peeled and think about friends you know in other places who could collect for you if nothing is coming up near you. My bro is in Australia and that's where I found mine 😃

I have 154 cm x 47 cm x 74 cm aquarium with lid ( canopy ) at the top. What light do you recommend to grow plants? So far all listed lights you have recommended are not design for covered aquarium. I forgot to mention that aquarium has glass cover to control moisture.

The light has intensity of 7950 lumens, but it is just white (8000k) - intensity should be perfect, but does light colour or temperature affect plant growth? I am still not sure...

Really appreciate this video - chihiros lights are a bit confusing for a beginner and require a bit of research to understand what you need. Short of testing with a PAR meter, it can be challenging to get a grasp of which light to purchase from just reading about the lights online as someone new to proper lighting.

Hi Tommy, firstly I want to thank you for putting in the time, effort and cost to research and educate our hobby group. You are most appreciated. Secondly, I am about to retire and getting a 300 cm fully planted discus tank installed, and need some advice on lighting a tall tank. The Chihiros WRGB2 Pro looks excellent but I will require 3 of these for my tank and the cost in Australia would exceed AU$3,000. Are there any cheaper alternatives for a 70 cm high tank? Would a flood light that can be bought at any hardware shop do the job?

Need a little help, any suggestions welcome. I have a corner aquarium, with a glass lid seated inside. Id like to grow plants with a soil substrate. Java, anubias, crypt, sword, stem, maybe even some carpetting plants, moss. Which led light? RGB would be nice with a sunrise sunset feature but if that feature is costly then perhaps not. Im not familiar with any brands. Or should i just get a halogen flood light 🙂 The water itself is hard. And has a canister filter.

Hi Chihiros AII Max 901 what is the colour temperature (Kelvin). Is it 6700K as it only stated brightness 6500lm (lumen) no Kelvin info? The chart you provided only stated white led. Does the apps comes with a timer function.

Recently just found a 100 gallon acrylic tank that I am set on turning into a planted tank. I've been struggling with which lights would best suit my situatiion. It's acrylic, so mounting LED lights on the actual tank is looking near impossible. I will have to go with a DIY option and hang lights from above. My tank is 5 ft (152cm) long, 20 inches (50cm) wide and depth is around 18-20 inches too. What LED lights you you recommend for this size acrylic tank? A retailer is highly recommending UNS Titan 1 lights, but they are extremely expensive. If necessary, I will buy, but do not want to if its overkill for what I want. Want to do a Diaroma setup, carpeting, heavily planted etc. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for the video!

Could you just mount a shelf above the tank and hang the lights from that? Many do that. You could have a 120 cm light above it.

Hello! i want to upgrade the lighting in my juwel primo 110 tank which is 80cm wide and 43cm high. i am between wrgb2 60cm and wrgb2 pro 80cm. I close to the first one, which is more economical, but I am thinking if it will cover the plants that are at the edges of the tank. the second one on the other hand is exactly the dimension of the tank but it is quite more powerful and you suggest for tanks with greater depth and also it is quite more expensive than the simple wrgb2. which one would you recommend for my tank? on your vivid put the light intensity to 115 red / 42 green/ 88 blue ... try that out, idk if you are running CO2 but that also helps.

Really helpful video, im a beginner, still cycling fishless my first tank. The tank is around 90L 80x30x36, initially i was looking for the AII 80cm at 110€, but then some suggested me the WRGB Slim60 180€ (Slim 90 will be to long for my 80cm tank) and the AII Max 80cm 180€. Do you think that the jump price from the AII is worth for both WRGBSlim and the AII Max? And then, considering that i would like to grow carpet like plants, still i can't decide which one get. I see that Aii Max is stronger but only white, but the lesser power from WRGBII Slim is enough (or even better, maybe for take algae under control with a lesser bright light)?

What about the RGB A Plus series, i.e. Chihiros RGB A601 Plus? How does it perform compared to the WRGB II series? RGB A601 PLUS and WRGB II SLIM 60 have the same power and as you said WRGB II SLIM is not actually a real WRGB, so what is the difference?

On intensity yes, but you can't have the same color spectrum. ADA Solar RGB is unique. One of the best green colors are there. People look after controllable lights, even if this brings other problems to the daily operations. Like connectivity issues etc.

Isn’t it dangerous to use hanging kits for those 1-2 kilos of lights? I always wanted to switch to hanging, but having all this weight on the back glass rim feels risky for the silicone that holds it. Do you have any horror stories to share or everything’s fine with using them?

I think it would be fine because the tank itself is holding at least 50 to 200l of water, so an extra kilo or two won't hurt

Will do probably. Not sure about the aquarium size you have. But there are so many carpeting plants. Some need less lights others will show the peak form only with very intense lighting.

I think its interesting you did not review The Twinstar S series for a pro light. Any particular reason for that? I have a Twinstar S and am thinking about trading it in for a Chihiros WRGB Pro.

The video only covers the Chihiros range. With Twinstar, we had some supply issues in the past year or so, which seem to have normalized now with the Gen IV lights.

So many things lacking with it including a basic measure of light setting or intensity to let know know what level you are at. I purchased the recommended 3rd party wifi controller from amazon that youtubers were using but the plug does not fit the Gen 4 lights and cant use and that is why i am giving up on Twinstar and shipping it back for a refund. Love the light. hate the controller with a passion. Excellent lighting thought.

I have the wrgb 2 and wrgb slim as well, the former saves the setting of turning on/off even with power cuts but the latter doesn't, any idea how to fix it?

I'm not sure it has a RAM that can work without power. An APC perhaps? :)

You may change your mind later to try other plants as well. This is why we usually recommend the option where you have more flexibility. Both are good lights tho.

Doable, but probably not with a taller aquarium. The more light you have the denser and more compact the plant will be. With less intense light the plant will cover the substrate, but will not have the same result on density and shape

AFAIK you can use any regular LED lights or fluorescent, it's just less efficient. I've been using SB3-300 and SB3-600 LED strips in DIY fixtures for years, ideally with less voltage and more aluminium for cooling. I'm using Aquatlantis lights on my big tank because of the consumption.
