I just found your channel a couple of days ago and I've been binge watching old episodes ever since. The quality of your work is outstanding and I've learned a lot by watching. I also really appreciate the quality of the videos. Great job, keep up the good work!

Very nice work Guy!! I would not have thought of using the circular saw blade in the table saw, learn something new everyday.
@GuysShop7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve! How do you like the design? I still have a lot of work to do and install the ebony plugs and bars yet :)
@SL18007 жыл бұрын
I really like the design and the ebony will add a lot to it.

I'd enjoy a video about builds you have done before you acquired all your great tools. A walk through your tool history - then and now sort of thing and get your take on the past and present. It would be interesting coming from a "Guy" that obliviously values and enjoys precision tools.

Nice work! If you end up doing a lot of work similar to the clock face, you might want to look into getting some paint mask. It's a self adhesive plastic that goes on the part before you machine the letters. Paint the engraved part then peel off the mask. It's usually a good idea to put a coat of finish on before applying the mask.
@GuysShop7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike! That's a good tip. I didn't even know anything like that was available. It doesn't bugger up the bit when you're cutting?
@mikescncshop7 жыл бұрын
It doesn't gunk up the cutter at all. It's made specifically for cnc routers in sign making. If you search for "paint mask vinyl" you will find numerous suppliers. There are several brands and types and it comes in various widths.

Here’s a technique I have used instead of milling through painters masking tape: start with your clock face a little thicker (for example 0.02”) than your desired finished product, spray on a shellac to seal the surface, mill your clock face your desired depth plus the ADDITIONAL (for example 0.02”) thickness of the face plate, spray paint the engravings, now take the ADDITIONAL thickness off of the engraved face with a drum sander, clean up with a finish sander. The shellac step is optional. I spray the shellac to keep the darker spray paint from penetrating deep into some open grained wood.

just a note on the clock face when I have my laser guy do engraving he has me finish the piece first then he engraves it then colors it with a water based stain. let the stain dry about 10 min then wipes any overspill off the piece

Coming along nicely, Guy! Interesting how for the door you went with haunched tenons. Just curious as to why? Nice CNC btw - As always thanks for sharing! Ivan
@GuysShop7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ivan! I wanted deeper tenon than I would have gotten with stub tenons for the doors, and the haunches provide support all the way to the edge to prevent twisting. Plus, I wanted to share how to make them :)
@lentilunderground65407 жыл бұрын
I figured due to the depth of the mortise. Good idea to prevent twisting and of course show "how to"! Great stuff. Thanks, Guy!

Your videos are great except for the use of inches who is only for Americans, the rest of the world is using metrical measurement because it's more easy to learn (1 cm is 10 mm and 1 meter is 100 cm and so on). All this use of 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch 1/16 inch does not make any sense to the rest of the world. If you want the world to watch your videos, switch to metrical instead of the old fashion imperial system. Just a friendly advise. And yes I smashed the like button so you now have 399 likes of 31K views. What is the reason that all the viewers don't click the like button?
