I had to "skip forward in time" and watch this build. Wow! What a fantastic piece. I have heard this mentioned many times on the podcast. A bit sad you are not building more of these. Cheers.

I realize that this is an old video, but honestly this is one of the best woodworking videos I have ever seen. I am working on a clock right now (not nearly as elaborate) and this build is something that I would strive to be able to complete. It is really a great job and very well filmed and documented. Sadly it seems as if the link to the plans no longer works? Thank you to your 7 years ago self for making these videos.

Looks great all finished, Guy. It's a real luxury as the maker and finisher to be able to pre-finish all the components. Most of my bread and butter work comes to me fully assembled, urgh
@GuysShop7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I try to prefinish whenever I can. I think this was the first time everything was finished before even sub assemblies were done. I'm really glad I did it this way.

Beautiful Clock ! Was wondering, do the finger joints ,on the base, not have any glue on them except for the dominos? Just curious because I always thought that it's hard to glue them and than get them cleaned up.
@GuysShop7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rodney! No, there is no glue on the finger joints. I think in a lot of the original G&G pieces, screws were used under the plugs to fix the fingers together.

That's just gorgeous, Guy. Love the color you chose. A question, how do you decide when the figure 8's need to be used?
@GuysShop7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve! The color mix is a recipe from Darrell Peart, and I'm really glad I chose to use it. When to use figure 8's? Jeez, hard question. It's just an easy and very effective way to secure something like a small table top or a top on something like this, that won't see a lot of stress.

Thanks for the reply, Guy.

Hi Guy, I think the clock looks great. Some criticism tho: I feel you leave some detail out of your video. You clearly have an access panel behind the clock that you reach behind to adjust the the clock works. You don’t discuss this. Also, you never explain what you do to keep your door closed. Are you using a magnet? A clasp? Further, I know that this is a no/low contact piece... however you actually go thru the effort to make faux pins that you painstakingly shape and design. Why not actually use real pins and then chisel the pins to shape once applied?
@GuysShop3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Some things just end up not making it in the video for time's sake. The door doesn't have a magnet or a clasp. Once I close it, it just stays in that position. The G&G plugs are simply part of the over all look and design, trying to stay true as much as possible to the style.
