Bobby, you remind me of my father in law the way that you can improvise and make something as good or better than a product that you could buy off the shelf! By the time that I am able to build a greenhouse anywhere near that size you will have all of the bugs worked out! Thanks for doing what you do my friend! I think of you with every tomato sandwich i eat this winter!

@navajopa31 Yep...this was out of sequence. One of MANY videos that I just never got around to completing or editing. I have a bunch from last year that I wanted to combine, just haven't done it yet. Good to hear you're still rolling along. Theres a felt tape that can be applied to the hoops to cut down on the heat, thereby decreasing degredation. Guardian felt tape....I got it from Growers Supply. It aint cheap, but neither is the plastic.

Yes it does look real good. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I've watched 3 or 4, and with slight variations, you guys all have had the same idea. My son & I are about to tackle doing the sides of 3 48' houses. We are all set to put it together *except* that we couldn't figure out how to attach the pipe to the plastic. Thanks for including the info about the clips. That's what we need. And that duct tape is going to be very important.

@CelticSouthland Ah, no worries with that tool. Its a vibratory cutter, you can put your hand on the cutting disc and it won't do anything. I had explained that, but edited it out trying to keep the video as short as possible. Thanks for the concern though...very thoughtful of you. ;-)
@mhpgardener12 жыл бұрын
To seal the curtains, I used the aluminum channels and wiggle wire. I had enough overhang at the bottom to allow for the strip and wire to be put in place. I keep it sealed up until I'm confident that I won't have anymore cold weather, likely some time on May. The wire is not too difficult to take on and off. You just have to be careful not to pinch or tear the plastic. Thanks Tony.

@timjturner Thx Tim. I spend a lot of time looking at catalogs and pics, trying to see how things go together. Then the wheels start turning and I come up with a way to do it without the expensive parts. Or at least thats the plan. I can't find seed for a money tree, so I have to be smart with what I have ! Mighty kind words too... comments like yours encourage me greatly. ;-)

I use typical greenhouse 6 mil plastic. It's UV treated and designed to last 4 yrs or so. This was a homemade design, something I put together in my head. If I had it to do over, I'd buy a used GH frame on Craigslist, and go that route. Thanks.
@mhpgardener12 жыл бұрын
Yes, I use the channels and wire to seal up the curtains for winter. In the spring, when I'm pretty sure the worst of the cold is over, I begin opening them up, one by one.

Looking good! Beware of the reaction between poly film and pvc. Can't remember if it's static electricity or chemical reaction or what but pvc touching film eats it sometimes. This is going to be an awesome summer, bet you feel like a kid in a candy store with all that growing space.

loved the video, were putting ours together now. one question...why do you choose to roll the side curtains "under" as opposed to out. I notice you kept a little "skirt" up at the hip rail, I guess to keep rain from getting into the curtain when rolled up. Love this design. Using all your great ideas. Thank you so much
@hoopmanlaszlo13 жыл бұрын
@mhpgardener you are doing a fine job. As I mentioned to you before that I have a 15x24 hoop house also. I tried the skirt but unfortunately unless you have an opening in the top of the hoop house for the heat to escape, it becomes an oven with or without the skirt. The heat rises and stays as it has nowhere to go. I don't know what state you live in, but I am in Raleigh, NC and it feels like the tropics here in the summer. Plants get sunburn and heat stroke just like you & I.

Just finishing a small greenhouse with a roll up curtain. Came in to look at how you made yours, couldn't figure out how to seal it off for cold winter time and prevent wind from tearing it loose. Looks like you have used the wiggle wire and channel. Do you put this on for the winter and then take it off in early spring? Assuming that the weight of the pipe is enough along with cross tying to keep plastic from tearing after removing wiggle wire.

Great tips and I can't wait to put something like this on my set up. I do have a question though, I have went through vids time and time again and I can not find how you made the curtains air tight. Maybe I missed it or it was in a video where I didn't notice it but you elaborate on how you did that or if you could share the link to the video in which you explained it? Once again great videos you have been the main contributer to my family and I building our greenhouse. God bless and thanks!

My clear cover is double-walled with an air pump that circulates air in between the 2 plastic panels. There IS a wall that bisects the main area from a small outer space, so it does not have much air in between the panels, but it does have some. (This outer space is where the curtain would be) What are your thoughts on installing a curtain with something like this?
