If you roll it up the other direction, then the water won't get trapped in there and cause mold and mildew. The water will run right over the top and not down inside the roll.

Excellent and timely video, Curtis, as we are building the same these days. What is the best source for channel lock and greenhouse poly in BC, to avoid US exchange rate pain? CY Growers? Wondering if other market gardeners out there have experienced the run-around from distributor/wholesalers who prefer to talk to big farms or nurseries who order by the pallet or truck load? Its frustrating for those that have to build up infrastructure incrementally, when cash flow allows. We've experienced a reluctance from wholesalers to open accounts for a small market gardener. While I understand that preference/bias from a business perspective, there seems to be a market niche for scale-appropriate gear in western Canada -like what 4 Season Tools is doing in the Midwest US. Any businesses out there?

This is awesome. But how do I do the other side? (Opposite the crank?)

Don't know if anyone said that already but a cutting disk in that grinder does a nice job too. Great system. I'll certainly be doing the same to mine this spring. That;'s if the snow ever goes away. Lol Northern New Brunswick...need I say more?

I understood everything until you actually rolled it up, how did it all go up so easily and even, and how did tying it down with that rope keep it from falling back down, totally confusing, well, for me that is :P
@andrewcain65185 жыл бұрын
Instead of getting a custom crank, you can drill a hole in the end of the pipe and slip a rod through as a crank. One less tool to find or find a place for.

i think that kind of plastic perfect for my african violet greenhouse would you mind to tell me what kind of plastic is that?
@KCHeirloomsOrganics7 жыл бұрын
Curtis, if you cut your wiggle wire in aboat 8" lengths, go down the sides w the shorter pieces, and hook your top layer w that, you skip every 2' and add a " piece of wiggle wire, you can actually have space in between the wiggle wire for air to blow up the lower section, won't have to use a channel that way

Brilliant. I've only used the system where there's a wiggle wire track running along the entire length of the roll up tube. track is about $1 a foot so that's probably a lot more expensive that your little poly pipe plastic clip trick. Is it still holding up well after 3 years? Do you still like this system for your roll up sides?
@Inspirewell4043 жыл бұрын
What is the size of the steel tubing you're using?

Great stuff Curtis. Do you have any anti-billowing rope that you attach to that? We have a inflated plastic prop house and want roll-up sides on it but can't figure out how to get the zigzag string in there. Any ideas?

Thanks for sharing. Have you tried plastic pipe instead of metal? Wondering if I could maybe use PVC
@offgridcurtisstone7 жыл бұрын
Yes, never again. PVC is garbage for greenhouses.
@fouroakfarm7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply Curtis. Just so Im clear, I was talking about the pipe thats used for the roll up side, not the frame itself (which I agree, metal is so much better). Is that what you were referencing?
@weltirol34767 жыл бұрын
A PVC Pipe is for sure garbage also for that .. i think the weight of the metal pipes is even necessary to hold the plastic down when its kinda windy.
@gnc19627 жыл бұрын
Do you not have a problem with rain when you roll them inside out? We roll ours outside in which works without catching the rain which can bulge the plastic.

awesome tip! question: would this work also with a double poly greenhouse?
@greglahue5690 Жыл бұрын
This was a double poly roof greenhouse/ cold frame shown. It required having the air inflation transfer tube(s) being disconnected that inflated both of the two long sidewalls. He did not show this procedure but the inflation fan will continue to inflate the roof but the air transfer tubes, for both sidewalls will be blocked. Most if not all have roll ups on both sidewalls for cross ventilation. If your question was you wanted roll up sides and still be able to inflate at night, it could be done but require allot of time, effort and difficult to justify.
@haydenmartinez85137 жыл бұрын
Hey Curtis! Do you guys ever have hailstorms in BC? I was wondering if the mil you use on that poly would hold up to a decent hail like what we have in Colorado.
