Rant: Exactly. Picky children who “only need to take a bite”, people who want to impress family and/or friends with over buying food for a party or get together to show how much they can afford, fast food places and stores that over stock because people have been taught to not want to buy the last of something because there must be something wrong with it, gardens/farms that let people pick their own food but no one wants the one that’s off-colored or not perfectly round, school lunches tossed out instead of available to kids who can’t afford them (I live in a place where they are free now but they aren’t free everywhere), food for Instagram or tik tok or Facebook, showing off that you can take a really appetizing photo, youtuber muck bangs where they over eat to an uncomfortable amount at times, kids channels where their children or parents just eat food vs gummies, KZbin videos of trying to gain weight the fastest, youtube videos of pranking fast food places and buying a ton of food, pranking fast food places and dropping, throwing, smashing and other to food, those tik tok channels that do the “me when I pay” *eats tiny amount of food* “me when (other person) pays)” *insane amount of food that looks perfectly fine that the person obviously won’t eat* or those tik toks where people put food in their toilet or a ton on the counter. America is so wasteful. So much of that is the internet. I believe the internet is a huge impact to why so much food is wasted.

It is, in fact, not illegal to hand out food. The reason companies throw away perfectly good food instead of giving it to people in need is because philanthropy is not profitable. So, uh, yeah it is because of capitalism.
@crypticshadows Жыл бұрын
Wait isn’t it illegal to give away expired food though?/gq
@lmitz Жыл бұрын
@@crypticshadows Well it depends a little. Remember that expiration dates are more so guidelines than rules. But in terms of knowingly giving out food with like mold and stuff that may be illegal but giving away bread because it expired yesterday will probably be totally fine both safety-wise and legally speaking. Generally there won't be retaliation if they something like that. Sometimes it is even encouraged in terms of tax benefits and such but it is decided on a year by year basis, stores don't like the idea of doing something costly and then suddenly the government is like "lmao we ain't doing it this year"
@baintreachas Жыл бұрын

Marx literally tackles that "what if someone works really slowly on a shoe" thing in the first section of the first volume of Capital. > Some people might think that if the value of a commodity is determined by the quantity of labor spent on it, the more idle and un-skillful the laborer, the more valuable would his commodity be, because more time would be required in its production. The labor, however, that forms the substance of value, is homogeneous human labor, expenditure of one uniform labor power. The total labor power of society, which is embodied in the sum total of the values of all commodities produced by that society, counts here as one homogeneous mass of human labor power, composed though it be of innumerable individual units...The labor time socially necessary is that required to produce an article under the normal conditions of production, and with the average degree of skill and intensity prevalent at the time.
