Greenlight, Hot Wheels, M2 and Auto World Compared!

I collect Greenlight, Hot Wheels, M2, Johnny Lightning and Auto World and Personally I think that Auto World is the best. I appreciate their detail and true 1:64 scale.

Im sorry but M2 is FAR superior to Hotwheels. M2, from a collectors standpoint, is nicer because of all the details and the stand. And M2 is better than Hotwheels from a play point of view because you can open the hood and doors. The only thing that would make Hotwheels better than M2 is the sturdiness of the car but the play ability and display ability of M2 far out weigh that one plus Hotwheels has.

milincoln I can see your point. I am just very unimpressed with the quality of M2. Sure they look great in the box but the quality just isn't there. Plastic base, doors that won't stay shut, they just feel cheap. For $6 I expect it to at least feel like a $6 car when it's out of the box. As for playability the opening parts are fun until they break off in the toy box. I like how M2 cars looks but from a quality standpoint I don't think I can justify spending $6 on them going forward.

When you say plastic base do you mean the display base with the car name? The chassis is metal, it just looks plastic cause they painted it black. It's true M2 are very fragile and often have quality control issues. But Hotwheels has lots of quality control issues as well. To me the thing is this, you're saying M2 is inferior to Hotwheels because they are fragile. So you're giving M2 a lesser rating because they tried to make a better product? M2 made a product with many more details, M2 has a piece that is attached to the car when it comes to Headlights, Grill, Bumbers, tail lights and others. M2 has opening hoods, and doors. They might be fragile, there might be some quality control issues but they tried to make a better product. All Hotwheels did was slap a metal chassis on a basic car and also slap rubber tires on it. They did the minimal effort and charged 5 times more than what the car was originally worth. Mattel is the worlds second largest toy Manufacture so I really frown on the minimal effort put forth by Mattel on the Hotwheels line. Maybe im just sour towards Mattel because they just keep making cheaper and cheaper quality toys while charging more and more. When I was a kid I remember lots of my Hotwheel cars having opening hoods, they were all metal, and some had other articulation. Today you'd be luck to find a Hotwheel car that was all metal, it's mostly plastic now. And slowly Mattel is eliminating all of the castings that had opening parts. All this from a company that can afford to put a little more into their product.

Ok upon further evaluation I misjudged the base of the car. When I did the video it looked like plastic plus I saw that I held my hand to it to see if it was cold and it must not have been because I thought it was plastic. That was my mistake. I may remake the video with this new finding as it does change things a bit. I don't dock M2 for trying to come up with more detail but in my opinion it is poorly executed. I still very much like my classic M2 trucks however having the Mustang off the base there are some very obvious quality control issues. As for Hot Wheels, you're right mainlines with metal base and rubber tires. The QC at Mattel has definitely fallen by the wayside as well. I still have a lot of those all metal cars with articulating parts from when I was a kid. There are some minor paint chips here and there but for the most part they have held up exceptionally well. The only reason that I put Hot Wheels ahead of M2 is because I mistakenly thought it was a plastic base. In all reality I think they are probably even, they both have their flaws and QC issues. If you're going to release a product it should at least be up to par with the best that is on the market and neither of these live up to that in my opinion. On the other hand I think that Greenlight and AutoWorld are excellent products. In my opinion if there is the quality out there for $5 that those two companies put out then there is absolutely no reason that Hot Wheels and M2 can't produce the same. Especially Hot Wheels considering how huge of a company Mattel is. I think M2 could do away with the fancy packaging and spend more money on actual quality of their pieces and be doing a lot better. When I get the next wave of Retro Entertainment which will be in the next couple of days there will be a couple of very unfavorable reviews for a couple of the cars based on poor quality but I won't dive into that until the videos are posted.

I've had some M2's fall apart on me as I unscrewed them. One time I got a Semi that had no 5th wheel, I emailed M2, they asked for pics and then I never heard from them again. Still I love their product.

Hot wheels is for kids, Auto World is for collectors. Others are in the middle.

interesting video and point of view. i own mustangs from all these four manufacturers and i have to say that Auto World comes on top in terms of fidelity, detail and execution. Their 1971 Mustang Mach 1 is a pleasure to look at. The opening hood is tight and stays up. Really awesome. Greenlight does a pretty good job overall on their vintage castings, with good detail. Hot Wheels is a bit hit or miss, but i love their 1971 Mustang Mach 1. Looks so bad ass and feels heavy and sturdy. I have mixed feelings with M2 though. I have five cars so far from the Drivers series, and 2 Mustang Boss, and the first thing that i noticed is that their 1/64 scale is all wrong. Their castings are way bigger than any of the other castings and there is no way it is 1/64, no matter what they claim on the box. They have a good amount of detail but nothing that AutoWorld doesn't do better. And looking at your video i would say that the AutoWorld Mustang is the one that looked the best to me.

Elisio Da Costa I agree that M2 is typically way off and the quality is not up to par in my opinion. I haven't had the opportunity to see a lot of AutoWorld I may open up to them more as time progresses. Thank you for sharing your opinion, I enjoy hearing from other collectors.

i think what gives M2 an advantage is the amount of small flimsy pieces. autoworld looks better to me due to them being true 1:64 and the quality of them as apparently M2 has more quality issues (not sure if it has been true as of today).

The only thing that bums me, since I like them all is I will remember collecting diecast with a steel top AND steel bottom for a buck. They all have pros and cons and generally you get what you pay for these days.

greenlights and autoworlds are awesome however they are harder to come by since autoworld only releases stuff twice per year and greenlights are super hard to come by since only toys r us carries them and meijer and hobby lobby wich i dont have and yes i agree the quality controll for m2 just isint there i have a bunch of them but i still say greenlight autoworld and johnny lightning are a ton better and i like hot wheels retro emtertainment okay but i hate the big wheels they allways put on them but thats still the only adult line i collect in fact hot wheels has a price increase now because they had a huge price loss in the us market i swear the people at hot wheels need to get theyre head outta the sand and m2 machines does also or those companies are gonna go belly up!!

thejman63 I think you're right as far as Hot Wheels and M2 going belly up. I only own 2 AutoWorlds. I did not know they were only released twice per year but that explains the lack of new castings. I am very impressed with the ones that I do have and would love to see them start putting out more. As for Greenlight, I have a lot of those and whether it's 1:64 or 1:43 scale they are superb, I would imagine their 1:18 scale stuff is of the same superb quality though I don't own any of those. Fortunately I have Meijer around me so I am able to occasionally find some good stuff on the pegs. I buy almost all of my stuff online at this point though because there is a lot of competition around me so it just seems to make more sense to buy what I want online and save the gas and time trying to hunt something down. I'm not sure if it's this way everywhere but lately it seems there are a ton of new collectors in my area. Anyways sorry for the extremely lengthy comment.

for me this is how i see diecast now.I like autoworld and greenlight in terms of adult diecast they have more new castings than m2 machines who allways seems to redo castings a ton plus with m2 ive run into a number of quality issues with them as opposed to auto world and greenlight.in terms of accuracy all win in that department.distribution and ease of finding??well none really seem to have it in this department and are stellar but m2 seems to do a bit better but i think its because its all the same stuff nobody wants is warming up pegs.maisto in terms of quality is awful and a complete joke i refuse to buy anything maisto at all.jada i dont collect jada they look way too cartoonish for me to consider them.and i like matchbox over hot wheels more details than hot wheels.although i do on ocassion buy them hot wheels in terms of being accurate on movie cars in 1/64 in both retro and mainline form they are terribly inaccurate on details and with greenlights offerings in the movie department id still pay more for greenlight.autoworld needs to do more movie stuff and make more product lines available in mass retail.same with greenlight.

Would never buy China made toy cars....again. Bought the john wick car and the 67 mustang from green light, both had defects. The Bos 429's wing is easy to detach while the hood for the 67 wont stay open. Overall, if it's made in china, I'm going to pass on it. - lol this comment is brought to you by, KZbin during pandemic

Sorry, had to give a thumbs down because you're opinion is not well informed. Original from factory there never was a Mustang supplied with "big and little" tires! Which means that the Hotwheels version is incorrect and should be considered as custom, and I think you may be biased for Hotwheels as the big logo appears on your desk. And the 3 other vehicles have correct scale tire width, and the versions of Auto World and Greenlight are true 1:64. Sometimes M2's and Hotwheels are in true scale, but I'm sure you are aware that this is rare! And just because the M2 was poorly excecuted and wrongfully painted at the plant, it shouldn't demerit it that much, because you and I know that now days Hotwheels rarely cares about these issues. I do own some very well built Hotwheels sets from 10 years or more that were superior. But these days Auto World & Greenlight are at the top of the game of US fabricators. I'd rank Auto World as the best one, followed by M2, Greenlight and then, Hot Wheels. Concerning Greenlight, I think they really do a nice job! This Eleanor Mustang, nevertheless, I don't think is their best casting, since I have one and doors closure could be better. If you had a Johnny Lightning in this comparison, I believe it would be in third place, right before this particular Greenlight Mustang.

Check again. M2 is indeed metal. The black paint makes it appear plastic. Put your lip, tongue or cheek agaisnt the bottom. M2 makes a cheaper version called auto drivers that has a plastic bottom and doors that dont open. They do need to work on their doors (i try to get ones that line up) but aestheically the m2's are the nicest imo. Their details a the best. As for the greenlight........i believe that is a shelby diecast casting that greenlight used. None of their 1/64's have ever had opening doors as far as i know. Even their 1/43's do not open.

Dar70 Yes you are correct I made a mistake on that one. Which does slightly alter my opinion of these cars and I may remake this video to reflect that in the future. I believe you're right about the Greenlight being a Shelby casting. I've never seen another one with opening doors. As for the 1/43's you're correct on that as well at least none of the ones that I own open. Thanks for watching!

Greenlight are horrible, they may have a lot of detail but the proportions are just pathetic, Hot Wheels get the proportions right every time with 1:18 scale, there aren't really many companies that get the proportions right, but Hot Wheels nails it! Autoworld is probably the best out of the lot judging by these cars.
