I have become strictly an M2 enthusiast. The level of detail is 2nd to none. They aren't meant to be played with, only look at. I customize most all my M2 collection. It's easy to disassemble and change wheel/tire combinations. I paint the interiors, dashboards, and undercarriage. Some also have optional rearends to tub and narrow like the real thing. My collection is a good 300 strong. Love these cars.

M2 has become one of my go-to brands for early, unique vehicles from the 50's and 60's. They do vehicles no one else does. I'm not into their 'branded' lines, but they do excellent stock and pro-touring style models. They do have their issues, much like Greenlight, but still a good brand to add to a collection.

Funny enough that people would complain about the cars having logos on them, but that's what attracted me to the brand. Six months ago, I started collecting them mainly cause of their unique look and didn't even realize till recently that alot of the ones I found are either 750 or 250 chase cars along with a hand full of 7k peaces. Either way, I'm mainly a big fan of old-school muscle cars and enjoy collecting as they are. I also like keeping them in their original packaging so I guess I'll truly never know what all the issues are that they have....

Thanks, I'm building a 0-scale layout and started collecting the M2 vehicles 6 years ago. My layout is modeled from the 40's to the 70s, and The 1/64th scale vehicles actually worked best with my postwar collection due to selective compression. I look for cars that are stock without advertising and trucks with advertising on them unless it's a specific set with advertising like the Sunoco 55 Nomad and trailer. The 1/64th scale is also compatible with the Lionel diecast semi trucks, construction vehicles, flat car loads, and autoracks. Walmart was a good source before the pandemic, and now I find Hobby Lobby usually has a good selection of several different brands of 1/64th scale diecast vehicles. The auto hauler is neat. I haven't seen it before, but it's on my list now. I like the opening doors and hoods. I use them for static displays, and I like that I can display them alongside my service stations and gas pumps with the doors and hoods opened. I thought that M2 must be modeling them for model railroading because everything about them works perfectly for the most popular era to model in. Perhaps the diecast car collector's should purchase an 0-scale gas station, auto repair, or speed shop to make a diorama to display their cars. Menards has several affordable lighted Texaco, Sinclair, and dealership buildings that would make a good display that fit the era that M2 produces in.

I like the M2 brand the best of all the various brands. As a HUGE MOPAR fan, I buy every Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, and DeSoto die cast I can get my hands on, regardless of brand, as well as all of the MOPAR hauler sets, trucks, etc. All of them stay in their original packaging, and I store them in Sterilite 28 quart totes, organized by brand and model, boxed or carded, and so on. I'm almost 70 years old, but I still love my toys!
@stevemason51732 жыл бұрын
One of the great issues with M2 is they are screwed together. That makes it much easier to correct and repair factory issues if needed. But the best thing is easy disassembly for customizing, wheel swaps, and even engine swaps. I always remove the goofy logos and tampos from the cars for more of a realistic daily driver street car look. I did allot of customs of all brands. I disassembled several brands and made silicone molds of many of the pieces as well as carving several hop up parts of my own. I would then cast them from resin and modify any brand. I carved and molded a few styles of boot covers and sun visors and I can make any brand a convertible .A great amount of fun creativity and enjoyment of this hobby...

Great brand overview, I kinda feel the same way for the liveries which I tend to stay away from, favouring stock or mild custom pieces. I did buy a few of the SRT & LSx branded ones though as they actually have modern engine swaps, visible on the ones with moving parts. Best example is the khaki variation of that 1st 300C you bought, with a Hellcat engine under the hood, makes a really nice conversation piece. Excellent showcase 👍

So far I been lucky on finding 1/64 chases but I been more lucky so far in getting 1/24 scale Chases, so mainly with my M2 collection on 10% of my cars and trucks are open with all my hauler with car sets are sealed and all my 1/24 scale cars are sealed also. With the cars I opened they are still clean and mint but I do buy doubles for the drag racing cars and trucks. Happy Collecting 😎

I only collect the ones that come with the plastic case. I have about 20. I like to stack them on top of each other (3 high), I have them on my bookshelf in my walk-in closet, they tend to fall over sometimes which is very annoying >: XD. I like to show them off to my imaginary guests. I really think the company intends for these to be show pieces instead of play cars (like Hot Wheels). I took a few off their plastic base and they roll terribly. Great for looking at but terrible for playing with. Then again - I think I'm a little old for playing on a printed city play-carpet with my little cars. Plus, there's always Hot Wheels for that. XD

Very thorough review. M2 definitely has some quality issues. So does Greenlight and Auto World. You have to inspect them really well before you buy. That’s a shame. If Greenlight and Auto World were at a price closer to Hot Wheels then it wouldn’t be such an issue, but at $6.00+ for a single car and $18.00+ for a hauler, the quality control should be much better. 👍👍👍

I recently started buying m2, I love muscle cars and I have a mustang in real life so I first got a frost green 69 camaro in 1/24th scale and it has the common tire issue that m2 has, but otherwise it's a pretty solid car, the only other thing is the steering is loose, but I just got a dark green 1/24th scale mach 1 1970 mustang, and it is done much much better, only flaw at all is some paint on the mach 1 shaker piece, but otherwise M2 is a solid brand to go to, they nail the realism, and they even have power by ford on the mustang heads lol

I was about to pick up 2 yesterday, they look so cool in the package, upon further inspection, i seen a.lot of imperfections, the mustang had the fog lights in grill crooked, the corvette had a scratch on the door, at $7 a pop I would hope it had better quality, I put them back, loved the cars but if you look close, you see a few mess ups, sorry cant spend that kinda money for a less then a "HW PREMIUM" I thought lets get some better cars then just hot wheels mainlines, but too many imperfections for me, they spend a lotta money on the packaging, maybe they need to rethink where their investing their quality

I don't really collect M2s (i have very few of them) but i followed most of their releases through videos in the last few years so i can form an opinion. Pros: They do 1950s and 60s models nobody else does. Their "Auto-thentics" series offers great overall detail and (usually) multiple opening parts. Their "Model Kits" show off some nice customization options for the castings they include. Their "Auto-Lifts" offer some nice two-car variations and their "Auto-Wheels" offer extra wheels if you want to customize. Their "Auto-Haulers" offer some cool sets as well. Their "Auto Drivers" are the more simple and cheaper ones with some nice details but no opening parts and plastic bases. Cons: Their "Auto Drivers" sets keep bringing the same models over and over with different liveries, casting selection is small and it should be bigger and from what i get is that they were meant to stay on their plinths as they usually don't roll that well. Their branding on the cars may get annoying, but it probably pays up for most of their licencing expenses as well. The general consensus that their cars have "parts falling off and / or missing" can be found in some of their more detailed models, although not to an extent that most people think ; it happerns occasionally, but at least they seem to have improved in that regard in the last couple of years or so. As for not beeing true 1/64 scale, that doesn't bother me much, but may bother people who are strict to scale accuracy. Overall i think it's a good diecast brand, they just need more variety in their models, maybe extend to other European and Japanse cars beyond Beetles and Fairladys, despite the stiff competion. Thanks for making another excellent video!
@StingerDiecast2 жыл бұрын
Yeah more variety is definitely needed. It's cool they do so many significant variations of the castings but especially in the drivers line 25 different castings just isn't enough.

IMO M2 cars are more like finished diecast model kits. Meant to be looked at, customized but not touched a lot. The castings are great. A couple of them are the best representations of some real cars in 1/64 scale that I've seen. But if they could improve the quality, these would be much cooler and much more collectible.

Unfortunately, M2 quality has been kind of hit or miss. One really needs to carefully inspect the model in the package before purchasing it to make sure everything looks straight and level. To their credit, they have have come out with some really great castings like the Foose truck and the Moon-Eyes Chevy Bel-Air. Those were as close to "perfect" as one can get -- at least the ones I purchased. As most people have stated, I don't buy many M2's unless something really jumps out to me.

Yes most of the time although the axel lengths might be off a little. Also there are drag version of the cars that have really wide rear tires which would only interchange with other drag versions.

You can also use the dremel with a round grinder and shave down the rear wheel wells in seconds to make wide tires fit. I modify most of my cars and do this often, Hope this helps.

Awesome video !! Thank you for clearing alot of that up !! Love M2'S, and actually you should PLEASE do another m2 video for the Hobby edition & o'reilly exclusive.. I have all the chevy nova's in all m2 editions . Ok maybe missing two of them 😁, my son has an amazing m2 collection as well mostly Mopar but has others as well .. thanks for the info 👍 👍

Wow, that has to be a lot of Novas. I counted 17 in just Auto Drivers alone. I don't really have enough of the exclusive releases to do a video focused on that but maybe that will change with time.

Same here, i just now bought all 3 of the M2 hauler sets at walmart for 7 apiece in the clearance section. They are the Pontiac black hauler with the black Buick 442 red interiors. Awesome sets, been collecting since 68 and just now found out about the m2 lines. Best wishes to you and yours.

I have some M2 in my collection including 2 or 3 complete sets. In terms of quality, I think they are little better than Greenlight. My favorites are the Bootlegger set and their somewhat recent release of 1976 GMC Desert Fox. I'll keep an eye for that 88 Oldsmobile. Btw, are you sure that dark grey Studebaker truck is from M2? I have one, looks quite similar but that’s a Greenlight release.

I don't trust M2 an awful lot. Gotta really inspect the model first before purchasing. I've seen some terrible quality, and I've seen some good. In my opinion the larger scale M2's are much better than the 1:64 scale models. Great show nonetheless. 🤘😎🤘 Pat

Yep, I still try to check things if I can but I do think quality has maybe gotten better recently.

They still need better QA/QC on them. I do not care that they are doing unique models, do a better job on the build and the wheels.
@caioapgs6 ай бұрын
I'm kind of disappointed on my m2s, they have potential but paint defects bother me a lot, I have a mustang that is 2 colors, it seems they painted the second over the first color which is ok, but the person that painted it touched it while the paint was still wet, so there are some fingerprint and dots of paint in a lot of places, it's fixable (bad because of the type of paint they use, still fixable tho) but still really disappointing.

M2s ARE extremely faithful diecast replica vehicles, but the quality falls off somewhat. Marx may have said "If We Make It, It Can TAKE It!" but sadly, M2s are too fragile and can never be accused of solid construction. I bought a '59 VW Dual-Cab Pickup W/Plow, and loved it, but the plow easily broke off, and the plastic chrome is unforgivably fragile as well. And you're hearing this from a caring collector, not an eleven year old play demon.
@marcusharader36482 жыл бұрын
That 57chevy you are holding is sedan delivery not a nomad they make the m2 s to look more like a real car these cars were not meant for young kids they were more for the adults
@StingerDiecast2 жыл бұрын
It's actually both as it's the sedan delivery version of a Chevy Nomad. Sedan delivery is a body style like a coupe/sedan/wagon. Chevy has sold sedan delivery versions of many different models.

Which is best M2, Greenlight or AutoWorld? And by that I mean which have less quality issues? I never had my hand in M2 but I have a some AutoWorld and great deal of GL. I pretty much stopped collecting GL. They have to much quality issues like wobbly wheels and paint issues like fingerprints and dust and hair in the the paint. Due to lack of space and disappointment in premium brand like GL and others I pretty much only collect premium lines from HW and MBX now. They cost less and have less issues IMO
@reptileguy84582 жыл бұрын
M2 greenlight or autoworld? I would have to give #1 to autoworld and a very close second to m2 machines. A DISTANT third place to greenlight. As far as overall quality is concerned.
