I had this procedure and it was very easy with no pain. Have never had TURP but as I understand the greenlight is much less invasive. It has been over a month after the procedure and so far the results have been very good.

I underwent green light laser therapy a few years ago, following too many years of undesirable symptoms. It was done at Central Ohio Urology by Dr Klump. I also had prostate stones extricated. I experienced minimal short term side effects. I highly recommend. I was approximately 70 at that time. Urinary flow is very good; up to urinate once nightly; no urinary retention.

I don't understand how the laser vaporizes the prostate tissue without damage to the tissue of the urethra.

The urethra is vaporized along with all the prostate tissue. Essentially, your new urethra is the shell of the prostate they leave behind.

They deplete your urethra completely and you remain with just the wall of the prostate to come in contact with the urine
