When he said, "how could that person not love me?" I cried because it's this question we keep asking ourselves. The pain of not receiving love back when you give so much of it It makes you think something is wrong with you and your self worth isn't worthy enough for love. Cycle goes on. You tell your self I'll be good please love me in every act you do. I think people pleasing comes from this deep lack of love for oneself and for others. It's Beautiful how we suffer, and heal and finally find peace within ourselves and with the world. Thank you so much for this ❤

There is a common theme throughout these videos that I've noticed and that's that the vast majority of the participants have dogs, mans best companion. I can't wait until I move out of London after 40 years back to the land of my birth when I can finally get a dog and be at peace. I have missed the ocean. I connected with this mans pain as I have buried 3 of my children and have had enough sadness to last a lifetime.

Absolutely sad to read about the loss of 3 of your children, what a hole that leaves for you as a parent. Glad his message spoke to you deeply, may his words help and carry you. Regarding your thought about dogs - definitely here in South Africa many people have a dog or more (or other pets), and we agree, they are marvelous companions. Wishing you only the very best for your life, now and whenever you are moving to your country of birth. May you find and experience the peace you are looking for. And have a furry friend too. I see he is awakened through the pain. Absence of love is the foundation of the pain. My husband has never felt love from his parents. He is 67. All his life he has suffered from the lack of sense of self. Without love we aren't able to become whole. I am committed loving my husband unconditional. That is my mission in my marriage. At least he has become softened and trusting my love for him. A long journey ahead of him but he is not alone any more. Watching this man touches my heart deeply. As an American and “child of the 60s”, I recognize this man in some of my past acquaintances. For decades, he hid his lack of self esteem behind good looks and charm: there are telltale signs of this even without his self-analysis. His drug abuse was abuse of himself, his pretense and public persona were shields. Inside, he was scared, lonely and yearning for peace and a sense of deeper worth than his ego could offer. It has taken most of a lifetime to begin to find these things which both centre and ground a human. Having the humility to ask the Universe to help is a huge step forward, and I salute him for his courage.

There's so much beauty in this world, you just have to look at them.. like the sky at night, the sunset, the sun rays reflectjng on the water, a smile in a person's face, a hand offered when someone trips... so mich beautiful things.. only if you want to look at them with an eye of beauty. 🥀

I agree very strongly with this but I'd be lying if I said that ugliness isn't another side of the very same coin. And honestly, sometimes it's so overwhelming that it becomes very difficult to perceive the beautiful side.

I'm entering my 30's next year and I have never been more connected with the person I'm supposed to become. I'm excited to enter my 30s. I deal with chronic pain on a daily basis and I truly feel that it was humbled me in ways I never thought I would be humbled. My 20s were a disaster up until I turned 28, but I'm grateful to have gone through that because as he said, "You feel enough pain, you're gonna wanna change", and I wouldn't have changed, hadn't I felt enough pain

Another evocative film to which I personally relate. I never did drugs (my brother did), but there has been so much pain and the absence of a core. Love and trust missing. Wow. Humility. That one is tricky. Even as I was busy working to understand and to "fix" what was wrong with me there was a pride, an ego. It took me so long to begin to see and acknowledge the pain that drove my abusers and the fact that I carried them more than I wanted to believe, having left them, I thought, far behind as I sought to be and do better. I did not realize how much the trauma and trauma bonding drove me and my life. Thank you, GR Folks, for another bowl of rice. Grandma Ellen, out.

Yes. Stoicism is the way to go. The self respect and to love yourself. Amazin line " incredible gymnastics to be able to justify your own lack of self worth " is the key. I wish I knew and behave like this every minute and not just when I read this. Thank you. This helps me to cure my current difficult times to overcome 3years long infidelity of my wife I did not know about. I try to forgive her and stoicism helps a lot. My problem - I lacked the confidence in myslef regardless what I have achieved in my 51years. Beautifull film. thank you.

Sung -yee , getting old is a blessing compared to the alternative... Pain is a great reminder for the need for change in our lives. Pain requires a lot of truth and inner work through the process of being present and loving to ourselves. Focusing on what we love and what is beneficial for the sake of being alive with joyous celebration and creativity. We all are truly worthy of love and peace of mind. Learning to live in harmony with our own personal challenges and circumstances are always a choice for our wholeness and our future survival. Living with an adventurous spirit and heart felt openness to explore the wonderment and the miraculous newness of each precious moment with gratitude and appreciation for all of the many different blessings that exist now as we are now regardless of the circumstances that are distractions ♥ Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your time with us. It is a constant realization that we all need to heal our hearts and the wounds of the past stories and to live accordingly with generosity of spirit and heart with a strong sense of humor and the love of being alive in this miraculous world 🌎. Tenderness and nurturing for ourselves and others in this process of understanding through our intentions and our love ❤ 😍 💖 ❣ You are very brave and have a handle on this topic and I am so grateful for your posting and your energies of healing and reimagining your life 🙏 ❤

@ReflectionsofLife Жыл бұрын
As he mentions in the film, a lot of his pain came through his childhood and relationship with his parents. Totally understandably, Sy did not want to reveal a lot of details about his private life - and it isn't always relevant anyway. We all have our own unique pains in life. We all need to find our own way through to the other side, we each walk our own journey. But we can draw a lot of courage from hearing from those who make it through to the light. Warm wishes, Justine and Michael. 💚

@@ReflectionsofLife Well, yes, of course, I respect the privacy of your protagonists. It is just, that those stories in my opinion would be even stronger with more concrete life to them. I appreciate getting the message "I made it through hardships" - but personally I sometimes miss a little bit the 'flesh' of real life events - saying that, I'm mostly captured by the 'etherial' beauty of your portraits...

Pain didn't make me stronger. It made me weak, ugly, insensitive, angry, intolerant, and everything that i despise. It brings tears everytime i listen to him. I hope i get there one day. It takes tremendous amount of strength to be honest to oneself and speak from your heart. Cheers to him ❤

The pain is a gateway to the beautiful, the awe-filled perfection of the universe. The hardest paths, the darkest nights in the abyss reward us with the magical highest heights. The universe loves balance. Perhaps why as we grow into who we truly are, we wouldn’t exchange our calamitous, pain-filled experience of life. We understand, it’s our journey to seeing the magical and mystical wonder. One cannot experience one without the other. I love your words: we grow into the person we were meant to be. I think that is a path less taken as most often healing up hurts more than what first hurt us, and not everybody will be brave enough to take that route. I admire your courage, vulnerability and sensing that we never truly arrive at a destination in this lifetime, on this level of reality, it’s only ever always a journey.
