I have always loved Joni, her music, her art. Her shyness kept her personal self in the background and her art at the forefront. How amazing to hear Joni's assessment of our America and the upcoming global economic meltdown. Especially since it was recorded a few years ago, it is ever so true and unblinkingly accurate. Part of the wonder of her songs was her keen observation & telling of the human condition. Apparently, she still has that skill. How wonderful. What a treasure she is.

It's pretty simple, she is one of, in my opinion, the best original singer song writer period. It's her originality that always caught my ear. The voice and instrument in itself, the tuning from another planet and the privacy of the individual which made her so wonderful and artist. There have been times she reaches so deep I can't listen for years, hey I`m a guy but her power of interpretation let's you go where you need to go. Thanks for decades of originality and beautiful music

Joni Mitchell is human like all of us, and make mistakes. We talk about her and view her here not because of her mistakes but because she had a great, unique talent to write songs that touched millions of lives. We should appreciate that and not tear her down for little mistakes we all make. We all make mistakes but very few do the hard work and years of dedication to write new music. Remember what Lincoln said: "you will never uplift yourself by tearing down others." -self esteem issues

4:43 "When a culture's had peace for too long, it perverts..." That's precisely what's wrong with America right now. Not to say that a country needs war to stay healthy, but that being top dog for too long breeds a complacency that warps values. The "wars" should be against poverty and the suffering of our neighbors.

Love Joni's insight into the ills of society and our culture. Interesting and good interview. It isn't accurate that he was the pioneer of singer-songwriter. You are correct. If you have doubts about Joni, go buy "Hejira". An album written amd performed by her in the 70's and still is considered by Jazz and music critics in general to be beyond a classic. This would be one example of hundreds. Check out the lyrics if you want to learn something about life and poetry and history and art. Check out Jaco Pastorius on bass. Brilliant. watching her made me think of what carole king wrote in her memoir about the situation of humanity today."when in doubt, give back." we should give back no matter how small the act of giving back is for a person. joni has done that through her music. but she should start walking her talk by doing something concretely positive. words are not enough. carole has done so much through various causes for women, children, the environment without much fanfare and taking credit. maybe joni should too.

What Joni says here is all on point and even prophetic in re our current economic crisis. The woman is wise and she is generally right. Something truly Divine came through Mitchel that was part of a massively transformational era...she was/is blessed as were/are all who are capable of appreciating her work. I hope the lovely and talented and ever growing Joni Mitchel gives up the smoking and makes it to 137. :-)

Very few people are brave enough to speak about what is happening to us in America in as clear and honest a manner as Joni Mitchell does here. The utter failure of men in this culture is a tragedy, and we have brought it upon ourselves. Also, our seemingly willful blindness to what our government is doing in the world. This was recorded a few years ago, but it remains true.

Don't forget, she's human. The problem was you had her on a pedestal and when that happens, ones idols always fall short at some point. That's the danger in worshiping idols, especially when they're human. I don't agree with every single thing she says, but she still kicks the ass of every other female singer/songwriter of the last 40 years. And she paints pretty well, too. :-)
