this is a wood stove converting to a pellet stove. Hori 5 is designed as a pellet stove able to convert to a wood stove. This excels at being a wood stove, as a pellet stove, you have barely any cooking space. Hori 5 has a small oven that converts into a wood stove, but is very tiny used for "emergencies" if you run out of pellets, it excels at being a pellet stove. If you camp with no restriction on chopping your own firewood from nearby trees, this might be ideal since you get free unlimited fuel during the day, then switch to pellet at night for the long burn.

So you need to have a torch to preheat the stove and chimney before you can fire it up. That’s really dump.

Technically you don't but the lighting procedure on any stove wood or pellets is to warm the chimney first it creates a draft and sucks the air out the chimney. If you don't do this smoke can make it's way in through any of the cracks until the pipe warms up. ( less then 1 minute after the fire is lit) that's why you'll see people light the fire in the back of the wood stove usually. To get the updraft going. But again you can let the fire naturally do it. I think they are telling you to do it so they don't get complaints from people about smoke that never used a stove before.

Why sell a product requiring you to buy more than what's needed to safely operate it.. 3 additional chimney lengths? At $600+ you want me buy 3 more pieces.. just to make it run?!

The pellet burner can work only with sufficient chimney draft. When you purchase a GreenEngine Pellet burner combo, we include additional 3 chimney pipes in the package.
