@@jmmjjmmj8994 7 to 10 years, and if it requires a pollinator to set fruit and you only have one tree, it won't set fruit. Some trees are self fertile, like Stella, but most sweet cherries want a partner to pollinate their flowers.

The trees wouldnt fruit for years. It is a waiting game. Then when they do they won’t be true to parent. You could still possibly end up with a good cherry though

I watched this a few days ago, and today, I bought some cherries, just so I can start my own trees. It is July, in WV and by next Spring, I should have some small trees to plant on my farm. Yup, J is correct. Growing cherries takes a professional, and professional techniques. Even if you do get a healthy tree going, beating the birds to the fruit, is impossible.

All modern cherry hybrids will not yeild the same fruit from seed. Most will grow sterile trees or very small fruit. Modern hybrids are propagated by grafting onto rootstock. Old varieties, not shown, will grow true yellow-pink Napoleon, called Royal Ann & Queen Ann in UK & US, will grow true as will small black old world English Cherries ( Roman's brought from Armenia 2 millenia ago) & most sour cherries.

You need to wait 20 years before you harvest cherries. Make sure you spray the tree with pesticides every 2 weeks.

HI....I use adjustable vise grips to open the initial pit. I just set the opening in the grips to slightly smaller than the pit. Place ithe pit between the jaws and grip it to crack the hull. I learned this from someone else's video. So simple . Loved watching and learned alot. All the best to you. : )

One thing you might want to add. You can sprout cherries all you like, but for the most part you will need to be in a region with about 700 hours of cold weather for the plant to produce cherries. At least that is what the local nurseries here tell me as I love Rainier Cherries but now that I live in Florida, we only have about 360 and i'm told they will never produce.

That is great info for me to add in the next update I want to add a faq. Thanks Roger. I read on average its 1000 chilling hours for them to produce but it depends greatly on type or cultivar. Check out ‘Royal Lee’ and ‘Minnie Royal' apparently they need as few as 300 hours chill time. I have no idea what amount of chill time we get here in Malaga but should be enough, we get a good few months of coldish weather.

As a cherry farmer I was always taught that starting from seed will only give you a seedling cherry and not a edible cherry. But it also takes around 5 years to see fruit off of the tree so who knows. I hope people buying seeds online are not getting hosed only to find out years down the road.

Yeah growing from seed you will get a wild Cherrie tree with unknow characteristics . If your farming cherry's and are relying on results then buying a grafted tree would be the way to go. Ill look forward to trying to graft the trees myself one day once they grow big enough and i find a good donor tree.

You could literally get a tree that cannot survive the weather conditions in which it is planted, ones that produce inedible junk cherries... If someone really wants cherries to eat they need to get a grafted cherry tree of the type they would like to eat.

I read a comment from someone in a growing forum saying they got pretty good cherries after three years of producing cherries. Grapes are supposed to be the same way, the younger more sour grape crops are sold to grocery stores and the mature sweeter crops are used specifically for wine where there's better profit.

Amazing! I thought what was inside the cherry was the seed. I had no idea the seed was inside (the pit? I think is the proper term used?). Thanks for this! I found 2 mulberry trees and an enormous amount of wild black raspberries growing in my yard this year. Now I want to grow as many berries and fruits as possible on my acre and a smidge. I'm next to Florida, so I'm with you hoping I can get cherries as well. And my temp is usually higher than Florida. So praying both of us will be successful. I just place my seeds I. The refrigerator as he said. So according to his info, I should see germination at the end of May into June hopefully. That would make me feel sooo good. 😂

I had so many pits from eating my cherries and my thought was "Would these pits germinate and be true to seed?" The garbage can became their home, but I still plenty of 🍒🍒🍒, and perhaps I will try this.

They won't grow true to seed, what you will get is a wild cherry tree with unknown characteristics, a genetic gamble from the patent plants... But we could always graft them in the future.

@@EC-dz4bq They will be on own root stock for less vigor control,and if Cherries stink,you'll end up grafting good Cherry cuttings onto the tree.. I did it with apples,about six years from seed to flowering. Crab apples as I used seeds from good apples but they are not true to parent. Hardy and disease free but a gamble. I had ones with hairy under leaf that made me excited.lol..CRABBY!!! YUK!!

Are you prepared to wait 15 years for lemons? I planted some lemon seeds and had a nice little tree growing in a pot. I worried about frost killing it so I brought it inside in the winter. Did this for years and no blooms or fruit. I finally looked up lemon trees in my propagation book from my horticulture course and the book said it takes 15 years to be mature enough to bear fruit. On the 15th year I had it outside getting sun and didn't know we were going to have a hard frost that night. The frost killed my tree. One thing I didn't know about lemon trees is that the leaves smell like lemons when you crush them. Oh yeah, another thing I didn't know about lemon trees is that they have huge long thorns on the branches. It makes handling them a bit painful. I would clip them off to avoid getting stuck.

It's a hybrid accent due to social circles & locality & probably a couple of other factors. I might be wrong here, but I hear a slight Welsh twang with a hint of West Indies/African & a sprinkle of English midland Bangladeshi/Pakistani. No offense to anyone. It's purely a regional thing with social circles aspect.

Great job! If you are planning to grow them in the ground I would get them in just before Spring. So see how it goes, the 3inch pots might be enough to last you until Spring and then just get them in :-)

I'm not 100% about cherry seeds but w all other seeds (many ) I have germinated myself, I've had a much greater and quicker success rate soaking them in regular household hydrogen peroxide. Its actually pretty amazing how much better and quicker results I get doing this. This includes soaking the paper towel as well. I don't see why it wouldn't do the same for cherry seeds when you consider the principles.

Usually you just score a hard pit with a file and it will germinate,works with most hard pits!

Tip for you my man!!! Ive never had any results with a napkin, it always molds!!!! Leave them in water till they sprout, lower oxygen means less susceptibility of rotting or molding!

Sorry the video was going over and I had to pause so it wouldn't autoplay the next. Anyway the dichrome hairs that become roots when you deep bury a tomato plant, the biggest thing that kills of young roots is fungus. If you put a pinch of cinnamon in your water for your deep planted tomatoes they'll develop a huge root system by July.

I'm trying again using your method using cherry seeds from a local grower who went out of business this summer. I hope they work because the grower's trees are not being taken care of and I'm hoping to get at least one to sprout and continue the linage. I know they won't be true to seed but I can always graft onto them if they don't produce good fruit. Update: all those seeds failed but I'm trying again. If at first you don't succeed...

exactly, its always a win win, despite what some say. The worse case scenario is you have a nice rootstock to graft with... or firewood...😂
