I saw Mantissa live a The Metropolis under the Myer Center in Brisbane. I had their Killing Time EP in ‘91……then Mossy God came out…..One of THE best albums every recorded anywhere!

I remember the single for this had a sticker over the band name saying Killing Time (peel to reveal) and then “unveiled” their name change to Mantissa. Good times

Haven't heard this in years, literally. Where I worked in the US radio business the promo CD single arrived. An Oz band, Mantissa, playing this track live at Big Day Out apparently. The first guitar chords were kickass. Very Australian, in a sense, where rhythm guitar is played with an intensity. I played the CD single a lot and ended up getting it because they never used it on the rock format where I worked (a lot of great stuff was bypassed that way -- the Screaming Jets being another example of overlooked music -- it was all grunge, rap, R&B or nothing back then). This is a shot of adrenaline. Wish the band had received more recognition in the long term, and especially overseas (where I live), but that's the breaks, unfortunately. But at least we've got the 'Tube to keep it alive, hey?

Back in the day I used to set a video recording at midnight on RAGE on a Friday nigth and watch it the next day. This was one of the bands I found from doing said recording. Worst part was when a great song came on and the VHS had stopped recording!!!
@deezarockin83794 жыл бұрын
I used to do the same. The other downfall was recording over something you really wanted to keep. I still have a couple of my vhs tapes.

Way way back in the early 90s, I subscribed to a service called Rock Video Monthly, which would send me VHS tapes (remember those?) of 10 music videos every month. Some bands I've never heard of before or since. Mantissa was one of them, along with Sister Machine Gun, Course of Empire, Downset, King's X, and Varga. I could probably find the videos on KZbin, but they would be crappy 90s quality and barely worth the effort.

I was up in Brisvagas to see Janes Addiction and I was telling all my fellows in the mosh pit how good the support band was. But the lead guitar player missed the flight so Mantissa were pretty shit until he arrived the last three songs were Mary Mary, Sanctify and Land of the living then the acid kicked in and Janes adddiction came on OMG !!!
