In this video Corin transforms this Chinese Juniper bonsai. The tree had become a nice mass of foliage but the general structure of the tree was awkward in many places. Corin finds a new front and trunkline within the tree and wires the branches into a new structure. Finally we head into the shop to select a new pot for the design and plant the bonsai tree into its new container.

Thanks Corin - a great encouragement for the amateur bonsaist whose tendency would be to work around the faults because we don't necessarily have the vision or the confidence to take what seems like a more radical approach. Going backwards to move forwards is a skill that requires courage so showing how it can be done is a really great contribution.

One of your subscribers mentioned that your videos have a Bob Ross vibe to them. Now that I watches this video, I think he is right. And I mean that as a compliment. It makes your videos very pleasant to watch and really interesting and educational at the same time. Great transformation!

I really like your improvement series. I like how the crescent pot curves into the tree. With your cutting, wiring and styling, it's a new tree.

Wowser! I'll bet the owner is initially shocked at the size difference but awed at the same time, 1000% better than the original! 😍👍👌

When you started cutting off branches was thinking "what's he doing". Fair play that's why people come to Greenwood it was inspired. Huge improvement. You're a genius.

My first thought, looking at this tree, was: "Less is more"... Well, it happened! Sometimes you have to be brave instead of keep having a "bad feeling" with a tree. Generally, it will not improve just like that and just by itself. For me, I couldn't agree more with the choices you have made, mr Corin, and that goes for the bowl also. Let's hope there will not be too much juvenile growth. In future, some more refined wiring of the little twigs, will make this a beautiful and impressive little tree, I'm sure. And for the next few years, there will be enough growing space. Great job, great video, very instructive and useful. Thanks for sharing, once again!

This kind of video, showing how one can transform a difficult blob of a tree into something quite stylish and attractive is so inspirational for so many of us, your viewers, who only get to work with such material. Please keep doing more of these. (BTW, I do think the reddish, smaller crescent looked more appropriate for this tree).

Appreciate an autumn repot is manageable, the tree looked healthy at the start - but there was not much discussion about the root reduction or after care. hopefully others do not trip over if they try to carry out this much work on a juniper right now

Actually October is a fine time to do this sort of work to evergreens in the UK. The root reduction was no big issue, as is aftercare.

You need to forward plan, the pot makes it, imagine it in a years time once it has filled out, once the tree has more visual weight it will balance even better.
