How do i get my tiny chinese elm to grow nice thick trunk like that? Just plant it into a massive pot for few years?

At what time of the year in the UK is it possible to try and follow these guidelines ? Or alternatively when should you not do this ? I bought a few of these starter saplings at your Exhibition Weekend a couple of weeks ago

I've spent 24 years in Japan teaching on Japanese Excellence. I have been to many bonsai studios and exhibitions, but I have to say what you're doing here is extraordinary. You are world-class from start to finish, but there is just one problem......... You need to bonsai your health! We need you around and I can tell you, you're a walking heart attack. Please read my book and I will help you at no charge, Lean Health 7 Secrets 1. 80-20 fruits vegetables, protein 🟰🏃♂ 2. No, added sugar only read the ingredients avoid opening packages. 3. Portion size think the size of your fist. ✊ 4. Chopsticks will slow you down. 🥢 5. Enjoy a wide variety of fruits and vegetables 🥕 🍒🍎🍉🍑🍊🍋🌶 🥦🥒🥗🍅🌽🥕🍆 6. I have made an important observation people who prepare their own food have a 95% better chance of maintaining great health, people who have their food prepared for them are fat. 😪😣😩 7. 5 minutes a day exercise and never miss the rest of your life. Never take a day off develop a habit that will be the same as breathing. 💪

I have a question I have recently acquired a very nice Japanese maple it has some heavier branches towards the top that just would not be good for the overall design of the tree my question is when is the best time to remove heavy branches on a Japanese Maple bonsai?

Hi Corin, I have a few questions. I have a Beni Chidori maple, a corkbark elm, and an Itoigawa juniper. I was thinking of using straight Rice Krispies for the two deciduous trees (Tesco's Unfinest though cos I'm on a budget), and a 50/50 mix of Rice Krispies and Coco Pops for the juniper, does that sound okay? And would the deciduous trees like a bit of sugar sprinkled on their Rice Krispies?

Hello from California! I stumbled upon your channel as I searched YT for “Bonsai Crape Myrtle When to Prune”. It was interesting seeing your take on the tree in the UK. Over here, we value it for its summer flowers and fall colors. It loves full sun. Although you did a BEAUTIFUL job pruning a real specimen, in California we would prune like you did first after the spring flush of leaves, and then again in the late spring. If you cut after after that it won’t flower that year. Crape Myrtle bonsai are relatively rare where I live as well. However they are common street trees and in landscapes. I’ve been growing three rescues for more than twenty years as bonsai. My little trees have lived outside year round, even though they often get covered in snow! I’ve let mine get far too leggy over the years, and so I’m now looking for the right time of year to cut them back hard. Thanks for your great video, I look forward to watching more!

Every day is a learning day 💫 Today, I took to challenging my very ungreen fingers and applying them to the Japanese art of bonsai in an introduction course at Greenwood Bonsai Studio in Arnold, Nottingham. It was absolutely brilliant! I love taking the opportunity to learn something new and today I could not help but be inspired by the passion and enthusiasm of Corin, our workshop teacher. I came away feeling like I could turn anything into a bonsai 😂 I would highly recommend it to anyone! Cannot wait to see how my little bonsai collection grow.

The big limb you cut at ~ 37:47 , would that be "root able" to start another Bonsai? Thanks for the video showing that trimming a Bonsai you have to be BOLD in your visions and have sharp shears...

NO afraid not, they are usually grafted to get a stronger tree.

At ~ 10:05 , The big branch you cut off, can you use that to "root" another tree? Seems too nice of a branch to throw away... Great video to use as a guide for trimming my Green Mound Juniper Bonsai.. Thank you...

Thanks for sharing your display. Will be bringing some fellow enthusiasts from the Northumberland Bonsai Society down to meet you and see your displays next May and hopefully will also make the autumn show in 2025 as we look to build a fun calendar in 2025. Keep up the great work with your videos. Been enjoying them and learning from them for a few years now.
