Love to see an update to this. The "Kobalt" brand seems to be just color swapped Greenworks equipment. However I'd love to see if a physical adapter could be built for Ryobi equipment. The physical interface is different, but I suspect the batteries are similar.

First of all, I love this awesome video. You are the only one I've seen so far that relates to this issue. But I wonder if there are electrical incompatibilities between the chargers that might damage the battery during charging cause of overcharging, overheating or unbalanced charging?

I don't have a charger for ml:29472. Can i apply a voltage to the inner 2 connections on the battery? Which is positive? What voltage?

Love your video and just so folks know this doesnt always work, I just bought a 40v greenworks gmax to work with my poulon gmax 40v batteries and even with the stop removed (one stop on the poulon battery) it didnt work (battery slightly smaller and would not mesh with GW connectors). Returned the saw. Government needs to regulate so these are interchangeable so wasteful to throw away a 100$ battery and charger when a 60$ tool fails. Or someone could come out with a universal adapter perhaps. But thanks again for addressing an obvious issue!

Poulan pro ticked me off, needed twin blades for a 1yr old 40v mower could not find any. After I bought a new gas mower found out it was made by greenworks, they have the parts. Planned to buy the system, now everything is mismatched system no longer in stores?? This video helps alot for those lucky enough to find it.

I have the same problem. I have two PP 40v batteries and chargers that went to a pole saw and weedeater that got destroyed in a fire. Just got my new Greenworks chainsaw from Amazon thinking the PP batteries would work in it but they won't. Guess I'll send the saw back.

@@tonycopeland5809 Yes and make sure they know at GW you are returning the saw due to there batteries not being consistant. Im sure this is a marketing ploy for selling batteries - needs to backfire as a cost to them of returned saws.

Add StrikeMaster ice auger batteries to your list as they are also the same, all of these batteries are made by Greenworks' parent company in China, I believe. Thanks for this video.

Just for those wondering, the Greenworks gen1 battery does not work in Gmax tools. I modified a gen1 battery (removed tabs and added 2 slits in the battery to make fit Gmax tool) to fit a Gmax tool and it does turn on, runs for few seconds and turns off. I have not tried a Gmax battery in a gen1 tool but can’t see why it wouldn’t work.

I have the 29692 chargers and bought a new G-MAX tool, so I need to buy a 40V G-MAX battery (29472). Just to confirm, are you saying that I can charge the G-MAX battery in my existing 29692 charger(s)? Is there any danger of doing this? Wondering why it's recommended only to use the newer 29482 charger if that's the case? Thanks!

The two chargers are different, and the BMS design inside the battery is different.

Are you saying that other batteries models are not compatible with those other chargers? If that is the case, how is that? If those batteries work in the same tools as the one I have which is a 2.5 ah 40v greenworks battery, how is it then that they would not work in the same chargers if they work in the same tools and are all 40v.

The batteries compatible with the charger in the video are common to each other, but some battery shell interfaces are not universal and need to be modified.

Greenworks gen1 battery BMS is different, not compatible with gmax series battery and charger. Greenworks gen1 compatible model is 29662.

You need to send a picture of the battery compartment interface of gen 1 tools to me, I can help you determine whether the gmax battery can be modified to be compatible with gen 1 tools.

You def dont want to put a 40v charger on a 20v battery! Mxing voltage will either not charge or blow up the battery. Basic physics.

I have a problem with the McCulloch Charger. When I drain a battery, it needs to cool down for 20 minutes. Otherwise the chargers LED is green and it does not charge. Do the other chargers have the same problem?

I have a 40V 4Ah battery and charger that my Greenworks chainsaw came with. I used it a lot last fall and had zero problem, but last week I used the saw until it ran down, and then came right inside to try to charge the battery. Did just like you describe, did not charge and had the light turn an unusual green-yellow color. I was afraid I had damaged it, but It WAS hot because I was working it hard at the end--and when it cooled down it charged just fine.

Same thing here. Goes green, but it's because its too hot. force cool air through the vents for a while and then it charges. I feel like there should be a fan in the charger forcing air through the battery when it's plugged in. The holes are right there that seem to line up with the battery pack holes.

So it works with the most UNCOMMON devices not the more common devices like Black and decker, Ryobi, Milwaukee, Makita, Bosch, Makita, etc
