Greg Cajete: "Indigenous Science"

Greg Cajete (Tewa) is Director of Native American Studies and an Associate Professor in the Division of Language, Literacy and Socio cultural Studies in the College of Education at the University of New Mexico. This is a talk given at the conference, Sustainable Wisdom: Integrating Indigenous Knowhow for Global Flourishing, which took place at the University of Notre Dame in 2016.

I see there are not many views but for people like me, living across the water and desperate to learn from indigenous ways but finding it hard to do so, your videos are giving me what I’ve been looking for for years. I want to learn more so I can talk with greater understanding and raise acknowledgement and respect for indigenous people but also to incorporate some of the teaching in my life and work. I simply don’t have time to read books at the moment so listening to you while I cook or iron is such a wonderful use of my time. I want to thank you for uploading the videos. I’m a teacher.

I am Indigenous (Anishinaabe) and we always "pay" for "things" given to us. With that, don't just take these teachings without being reciprocal, use this to educate and inform people of our past and current struggles, and advocate for a new way other than capitalism and the destruction of our Mother Earth.
