No he was in Howe with his brother Albert on vocals until he started making solo albums in 1987.

@@Nigel-Webb Did his brother recently pass away? If so, then yeah, I remember this guy from a band called Duke that was out of my town in NJ. This would have been prior to '87. He played just like EVH. They never got a record deal although I think they were on the verge.
