I was devastated when I heard of Greg's passing. And yet I still feel he's with us. The last time I saw him was at a concert in L.A., where at the meet/greet afterward, he actually signed my belly. :) A person like Greg never goes away . . a soul that unique keeps coming back, simply because it must. Thank you all for your wonderful comments on this wonderful musician and human being.

Greg was very generous talking about the Beatles, never a bad word spoken only praise & kind words. That's the kind of man Greg was, down to earth & spoke with much 🙏 respect for other musicians. Truly missed by many family, friends & fans alike. Gone to soon. It's only now as a 64 older fan do I understand his musical ability & the memories his music & lyrics bring to me. So gifted. When he did interviews always willing to answer questions with the audience. Wish I had attended one of his caoncerts.

Very straight up man and so modest. He is as good as a guitar player as Fripp and doesn't have the arcane overblown egoism of so many musicians from that era. He will be missed
@leefury75 жыл бұрын
I fortunate enough to spend time with him and to be given his email address and we chatted from time to time. But you have really summarized it well by pointing out the fact as to how modest he was. I have always described it as being down to earth, every day sort of chap. He'd freely admit that in the early days, he and the band were quite wild. (Do you know the original title to Brain Salad Surgery?) But fame really didn't go to the head to any of these 3 men. Keith was a bit removed and Carl was a bit front and center. However, Greg really looked at everyone as being human. His unheralded work for "missing children" proves that. I never got to know of his spiritual life. But his human life was to be held in highest regards. I miss him greatly. And I feel like Red's synopsis after Andy escaped Shawshank, that a bit of life has gone out of the world without ELP still being available to be encountered again. But life is short and this life determines how/where we will spend the next.

I agree 100% with Greg about Elvis and Ringo. I am crowding 72. I saw Elvis leaving Graceland in his old pickup, by chance when I went to Memphis, with my X wife, to see Graceland. I saw the Beatles in 1964, live on the Ed Sullivan show. I got to see ELP in concert in Norman, Oklahoma. At the end of the concert, Keith Emerson cranked his synthesizer up all the way. It caught fire and blew up. THE MOST SPECTACULARLY MEMORABLE ENDING TO A CONCERT THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN!

They sold us a silent night, they sold us peace on earth. People SOLD us, look at the words it's about commercialism. it's a fantasy of Father Christmas. losing the innocence of a young boy thru his eyes. He is sad knowing it's all about making money. Tal ke the time to read the lyrics. it is a beautiful melody & Greg's voice is so pure with the guitar playing. I cried the first I time I heard it again from years ago. Ty to the internet I had forgotten. And now Greg Lake is no longer with us makes me sadder still.😢

I’ve never heard such an accurate and reliable source for the true greatness and phenomenon of the Beatles. Most people especially the unfortunate ones who missed it because they were not exposed to it by their parents misled by the lack of the Beatles instrumental virtuosity. But what they produced together goes way beyond flash. They knew how a song should sound not to mention the writing and singing most notable was the innovation and originality the guitar tones and it was all them perfect recording and the genius of simplicity. I always felt that way but Greg just confirmed it for me

I guess I missed these outstanding interviews with Greg Lake. Wow. He put so much creativity and dignity into rock and roll. The reason for the comment is my rescent devotion to the Beatles. I started listening 2 or 3 years ago and discovered so much more than I missed at the beginning. I remember walking into my best friends living room and seeing the brand new Meet The Beatles album laying on the sofa. We listenened to it and our world changed. Speaking of Ringos drumming, he has appearances on KZbin explaining how he developed the details of different songs. I became a bigger Ringo fan than I already was . It made sense to me, a non musician, of why I liked him so much. John was my favorite and Paul has gained my complete love and respect in the last few years. George would go down in the top 5 songwriters in British rock and roll in any other band. I lived and learned everything i know on Dylan poetry. He was my favorite with many bands right up there. Since I've listened in the rescent years to the Beatles I've come to the thinking that their outstanding lyrics are only bypassed in greatness, slightly, by the perfect sound they created on each song. I believe today that the magnificence of Dylan's writing is equal to the magnificence of the Beatles perfection of sound. What a Lucky Man I was to be born at the start and continue through the present moment to have whitnessed the experience.
