Seeing him play at Birchmere when he was around this age and I treasure that night with such a kind passionate man. I loved his story about the MOOG solo in Lucky man. They were running out of time and needed a last song for the record. The guys went to the pub and he took Lyrics he wrote as a twelve year old and worked up the song. The MOOG was dropped off while they were out and when they returned it was cut in one take with that solo his first go on the MOOG.

When you learned an instrument in the time that Greg would have first started, you had to learn it the traditional way....by developing an ear and practicing all the time. There was no auto tune, no internet with free charts or even digital tuners. It was all by ear and that is why they could recognize how to be original and craft the music they heard in their heads to the songs we heard on the radio.

One can hear it take shape and it is close to the 2nd wave but different in philosophy. After Jethro Tull’s debut , Ian Anderson stated that we figured out that we weren’t Bluesmen from Chicago and thus came the Middle Agee’s Renaissance/ European Bohemian influence in the work. My older sister turned me on to ELP. Man, what a shift in consciousness! Tunes like Tank and Take a pebble, Lucky Man - other-worldly to a kid weaned on pop radio. lol One of my all-time favorite groups.

What a great musician and a nice, down-to-earth guy! I feel as if I've known him most of my life! (of course, in a way, I have ;-)

The late, great, and justifiably lamented Greg Lake. What a musician. What a band.

What a great interview... because the guy/gal interviewing was smart enough to let him talk in a story fashion without interruptions... So many interviewers keep asking question ... instead of letting the interviewee tell us what he wants us to know...again thanks to who led this discussion ...such a great artist his music will be studied and played for generations.....

Keith RIP and Carl got most of the ink but Greg IMHO is way under rated both as a bass/guitarist and vocalist....

RIP Greg, you were both genial and genius. What a miserable year!

It wasn't 2020 yet when you said this. Sometimes I think Lake and Emerson and Bowie et al might've gotten the better end of the detail meeting their Maker when they did. I must say that in an age of isolation and turmoil, these fine gentlemen are _still_ bringing happiness and contentment to millions of us just through these KZbin videos when they still had their vitality and showed why they were such incredible people. Greg Lake especially. Not just a supreme talent and musical genius but also a stellar human being and a decent man -- a lot like his "forerunner," Justin Hayward.

If your from my generation, you'll never forget the first time you heard the album In the Court of the Crimson King...call her Moonchild dancing in the shallows of a river...the voice of Lake, the flute, the Moog and the surreal lyrics of Peter Sinfield....that was music unheard of at the time. It was indeed the very first (and some say the best) record of progressive rock.

What great and beautiful songs ELP played , under control , smooth , without loud heavy metal sound, their sound was everlasting one of a kind ! and mostly true beauty ! Musicians like them are very hard to come by even now in days , maybe forever !!!!!!!!!!!

Saw them at the Seattle Center Coliseum leg of their "Welcome Back My Friends. . ." world tour. While Keith was doing a solo, he and the grand piano he was playing elevated to a height where both of them began spinning vertically 360 degrees. Meanwhile, Greg was on stage playing a bass that doubled as a mini cannon which shot out confetti above the crowd. Ah, those were the days.

He goofed up on the picking “from the beginning” and he knew it.., Aaa! Loved it!! I’m keeping this video for inspiration, on my own many goof ups. Greg Lake was my inspiration to play guitar. God rest his beautiful soul.

My first concert way back in 1977 was Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Great band and Greg Lake was such a great singer. R.I.P. my friend.

What a great guy that is sorely missed, and I love how pays tribute to this guitar in such a personal way, but also how pays tribute to Elvis even though his music was far and away different to the music he helped create!
