Without movie theaters, and only streaming good movies would become super rare. The incentive to make really great movies just wouldn't be there. The goal of streaming is very different, you would get your 100 crappy Netflix movies you get now but without the big event movies because you can't justify those budgets without theater revenue

For the record there is no confirmation we are getting more Ghostbusters. It cost them $100M to produce, unknown amount to market, it made $200M worldwide, it is not a success. Analysts projected it needed to make $300M+ just to get in the black. But I love Greg’s optimism.

I don’t have any actors that I will rush to the theaters for, but I am day one in the seat for anything Denis Villeneuve touches - and likely will be there every week for the run of the film. I saw BladeRunner 2049 8 times in theaters and then rented a theater for a private viewing during the pandemic. He just makes phenomenal, gorgeous films.

A few things. I watched last week’s episode so I look forward to enjoying the fruits of my labor during the 10 year anniversary stream. When it comes to Furiosa in review I haven’t been able to go see the movie yet so I will circle back to in review later. Also, I think releasing so many movies back to back shoots these studios in the foot. I love going to the movies and even I don’t want to go every week. I think the majority of audiences go a handful of times a year at most, so the market is being flooded with a dwindled audience size. The studios have to take a share of the blame here and get out of their own way.

The old Mad Max movies did well on a small budget and also became iconic. But it took 30 years to make Fury Road. And it did well. So Furiosa couldve done better I guess. Not that it’s a monetary comparison but there was longer between Avatar 1 and 2 so you could’ve expected at least equal return.

I love movie theaters but often disagree and root against the "x actor should make this work" kind of thinking, and personally always look at creative teams instead since there's often so much erasure of writers, cinematographers, production designers and even sometimes directors in favor of giving credit (and by extension throwing tons of investment) to actors. Every time a "star actor" has a bomb, I hope that that leads to people giving a more holistic view and not what I feel is an outdated top billed actor view. But probably too optimistic

It’s not death of theaters. Furiousa is a prequel to a 9 year old movie and mad max fury road didn’t do crazy numbers either and remember guys we had a writers strike there were supposed to be more movies this summer. Next summer will be better movies especially with the new Superman movie
@mathew_monkbot10187 ай бұрын

Furiosa had so much going against it...a prequel to a mildly successful 9-year old reboot, in a franchise that has NEVER really been a box office powerhouse (even at its most popular), in a cinematic universe about a character that isn't even in this movie, lol. This was never going to make more money than the first one, and yet they spent more to make it than the first one. Either WB needed to be content with smaller margins, or they needed to not spend so much to make it. Either way, their disappointment suggests just how incompetent studio execs have become...they don't understand their own business.

Its not our responsibility to prop up theaters, especially when they continue to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to churn out the same garbage.

Fury Road did not make money in theatres. It did not do well, relative to it's budget. The problem is the budget for Furiosa is just too absurd. Should've made the movie 100 minutes and I think it would've been a better movie an done better.
