The criticim is definitely valid in a lot of areas. I've got 32 hours in so far, i do enjoy the game but the characters, character redesigns and dialogue are absolutely "disney-fied", especially noticeable after coming straight off a playthrough of the other 3 games.

Hearing how Greg genuinely fell in love with the game was just lovely, and as an audio experience listening to him explain his chronicles and journey of his experience with the game was blissful.

@@Dean-SLC im only a few hours in but i haven't really felt like there is that much agenda pushing in the game. you select gender and binary shit or something but that's really it and i think one of the characters mentions about pronouns but it's not really pushing anything, so far anyway.

I don't think the writing is bad but more like it's strange? like the way the characters talk feels like modern day people talk but in a medieval dark fantasy setting and it kinda breaks the immersion or just feels off.

It was a bit of a cultural phenomenon with Elden Ring, particularly because of how Fromsoftware designs their games in tandem with the unique scope of the world. The direction and pace was levied on the player essentially, progressing novel encounters or studying locations and lore descriptions was cathartic and journaling had real utility for grounding (especially) newer players or artistic & record keeping types since the world/level/encounter design was rich but there was little hand holding telling you what it was - you simply had to step into the unknown.

Loved exploring Greg’s journey with Veilguard after rolling credits myself recently! It’s fascinating to see how some characters connect with people while others don’t. I, for example, feel the same way about Neve but also felt as ambivalent about Lucanis. Meanwhile, Davrin turned out to be one of my favourites! Is it a perfect game? No, definitely not. Was I hoping for something a bit different? Sure. But it’s still an enjoyable time when you take it for what it is rather than what we might have wanted it to be. Also, regarding the comments on this video: why is it “woke” to enjoy this game? Why is it “woke” to appreciate that other people have different opinions and perspectives to your own?

I feel like it is more likely that this game connected more with the journalists who enjoyed it and are rating it highly. I find it less likely that some journalists are part of a conspiracy to promote the game for a hidden agenda. After playing the game myself, I can see why someone might give it a 9/10. I can also see why they would give it lower.

So this might end up seeming long winded but I feel like I’ve got to get it out of me. I’m exhausted with the people who are trying to force their personal feelings and agendas into/onto reviews for games. I’m not talking about Greg or KF here, I’m talking about the internet as a whole. Mostly the comments. I have no idea what caused the “controversy” around this game that made people polarize and politicize this game. In fact I don’t want to know. If it’s a gay relationship or something like that, I don’t care. It’s a FANTASY RPG! If you want to role play a character in a certain way, do that! If your character would not engage or be around something, don’t engage. Reviews and the comments should not be where we go to fight each other and put hate out into the world. And that goes for everyone, not just one side. I have watched like 6-8 reviews and read the comments on this game and ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS IF THE GAMES ANY GOOD! But if I go off of the comments either this is an amazing game with literally zero thing wrong with it or it’s a hot pile of dogshit and it’s irredeemable. The reviewers either drag it through the mud so violently that it can’t possibly be true, or they tout it as the second coming of Christ. I JUST WANT AN OBJECTIVE AND HONEST REVIEW OF A GAME IN A SERIES IVE LIGHTLY ENJOYED FROM A COMPANY WHO HAS PUT OUT A COUPLE OF REALLY BAD GAMES RECENTLY!!!! Dude you are preaching to me. I felt the same way. I just want to know if the overall game is worth my time. I ended up buying it to try it out. It feels like Mass Effect 2-3 and DAI. The dialogue is textbook BioWare. Cringy sometimes but still BioWare. It’s not much different in tone than their later singleplayer games Edit: I never played ME renegade so that me be a turn off if you want to be the bad guy. It’s all variations of like good Shepard. You can be blunt but not ruthless. As someone who only played paragon, this doesn’t bother me but mileage may vary.

Its not forcing ones opinion to simply state you don't like something a game is doing. And the best part is when these people are clear about their opinions, which they have been, you can easily parse which opinions you would likely agree with should you play the game, and use that to inform whether you would like to paly the game. If an opinion doesn't resonate with you, move to the next one. EZ.

You cannot “just ignore” the problems in the game design and atrocious characters. If it was more like baldurs gate where you could make more choices and leave out characters that don’t fit your play through, then it would be much better. People are annoyed because Dragon Age decided it was going to force a very specific playstyle on the character. That’s why it’s doing terrible in the market right now, even with zero competition lmao.

I absolutely love this idea for. For months I’ve been flirting with the idea of game journaling! Think this video has pushed me over the age to give it ago. I play and love my JRPGs, in the moment I’m lost and immersed in the worlds… but much like other games once it’s done it off to the next world.
