Been doing deep dives on Gregg, Duane and bands … even listened to audiobooks from their autobiographical stories … so this is a real treat seeing him when he was in his mid-30’s … thank you. What has stuck me most is how fast they both mastered their music and from very young ages … and knew their direction never giving up on it … 2 old souls whom lived fast and hard … yet with so much humble respectful quiet grace. RIP

Gregg Allman was perhaps the greatest most humble rock star of all time! So honest and raw and musically one of the best "all around" musicians in the music industry. A perfectionist! And the best damn voice the blues has ever heard !

Very cool to see this in one piece, thanks for splicing it all together Susan. When I originally posted this interview back in 2010 KZbin wouldn't let me post anything longer than about 10 minutes so I had to chop it up. The original VHS tape this came from is sitting in a shoe box up in my bedroom closet and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work anymore. This band was so much fun to play with, especially with the Toler Brothers in the lineup. Gregg was always very kind and soft spoken. There are only two of us left now from this particular lineup, Chaz Trippy and me. Luckily Clint Davis walked out in front of the band with his VHS camera and caught some of the show. Thanks again for posting.

Best lengthy video I've seen. Gregg was shy, and from what I've read, not always easy to interview because of that. He really opens up and talks in this one. He was so handsome in his younger days!! I will really miss his voice...so greatful for all the great music!

He loved us Yankees. The Beacon Theater was one of his favorite spots. We love the blues here in NY. I am a blues musician. There's no such thing as British Blues.🤣 Gregg calls out Dicky Betts and said "it would be the Allman Brothers Band if Dicky comes back". He really is glowing about playing with Dicky here. I remember there being a little hiatus with Dicky Betts. I was about 12 when they did this interview. I'm 54 now. The Allman Brothers Band had done a lot before 1982. Gregg felt it was time for another record and Dicky left for some time off. Greg did "I'm no Angel" and his solo record. He wanted to experiment and jam with horns in the band. That was 10 years of the Allman Brothers Band and then Dicky came back and they did it again in the 1990's. I caught them at the Jones Beach Theater. Duane Allman and his slide guitar came on the scene in about 1969. I was born listening to this music. It speaks to my core. ❤

Glad you enjoyed! I feel fortunate that during my coming of age most guys still had, if not long, at least shaggy hair. It pains me to see young men now shearing off their hair....we used to make fun of guys with "crew cuts." When they get older they'll have missed the opportunity to luxuriate in their own bountiful youthful heads of hair. I remember, just before my time, you'd see guys with long hair like Gregg Allman - always loved that contrast between masculinity and male strength and the softness and beauty of great hair :D

I've always thought Gregg was a great-looking man. I'm a sucker for long hair, but there's gotta be more than hair going on. Gregg seemed to have it going on here. Thanks so much for putting this up and putting a smile in my heart today. This is June of 2021 and I still miss him. Can't seem to get enough of him lately. He was a good-looking man even in his end days. Here's something I've been thinking about a lot lately, especially since we've lost Neil Peart, this is probably going to be the decade that we are gonna lose so many of the greats. It's gonna be a rough ride.

I think of him often ..the trials ,the tragic life he lived ..the loss he suffered ..he not only lost his dad,his brother ,and his band mate / friend Berry Oakley ..but he lost control of his well being during his battle with alcohol & herion...but he won those 2 particular battles ..he is so soft spoken polite ..and he is intelligent ..he's no air headed Rockstar..for damned sure may he rest in Peace..

To me, the biggest difference is that Gregg, even back then, had an undergirding of melancholia, while Bob Seger seems congenitally cheerful!

Susan Doran I fully agree with you Susan. Gergg's life of loss and hardships starting from near infancy no doubt had an affect in him And his songwriting. Bob on the other hand appears plainly jolly and almost childlike with giddiness...even the interviewer was taken back by this when he looked down, smiled and sort of laughed at Bob.

Thanks for your comment. It is indeed Eric Paulsen! I reached out to him and he says he remembers the day very well. He was told by Quint Davis he could have no more than15 minutes with Gregg, and no mention of Cher, but they seemed to hit it off, and "the conversation went on for quite sometime." Fortunately for us---and history!
