@@dirks9816 They said that so they wouldn't be sued more than they did because of that song, but if you read Napoleon's biography, you'll see that those lyrics tell his story. Louis XVI did not "used to rule the world", for the French territories in his time are nothing compared to those in Napoleon's time.

It's kind of an amalgamation song as far as I can tell nothing is specific. It's general themes that have played out dozens of times with a number of historical references. I don't think it's meant to tell a specific story. I think the French Revolution has some of the most romantic and yet ruthless imagery attached to it. It was a people's uprising against a decadent aristocracy followed by decades of some of the most vicious bloodshed in history. Not a new story but damn did they do it in style.

The song's title, “Viva la Vida,” is a Spanish saying that means “long live life” or “live the life”. The song's lyrics deal with themes of power, fame, and the pursuit of success. The song's album cover is a portion of the 1830 painting “Liberty Leading the People” by French artist Eugène Delacroix. The song's name comes from a painting by Frida Kahlo, a 20th-century Mexican artist.

My favourite song of all time, it came out when my youngest son was shortlisted for the part of Bran in Game of thrones and it seemed to sum up the character of the series, we had 6 months of recalls, secrecy and excitement , he was pipped at the post by Issac, amazing memories of happy exciting times with my amazing little 10 year old, now a BA. in arts and a Master in law, still makes me cry every time. Thank you.

hildegrade777 probably not soulless but a lot of people had problems with the background music. Probably different tonal hearing. A lot of people make comments about sound in video that I don’t notice or like myself.

Viva La Vida - Coldplay Lyrics I used to rule the world Seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning I sleep alone Sweep the streets I used to own I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes Listen as the crowd would sing: "Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!" One minute I held the key Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing Roman Cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain Once you go there was never Never an honest word That was when I ruled the world It was the wicked and wild wind Blew down the doors to let me in Shattered windows and the sound of drums People couldn't believe what I'd become Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate Just a puppet on a lonely string Oh who would ever want to be king? I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing Roman Cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain I know Saint Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing Roman Cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain I know Saint Peter will call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world
