My favorite scene in this film is in the restaurant. Peck sits down to the first solid meal he's had in too many days. His pleasure is boundless and he promptly cleans the plate and orders more of the same. If you've ever been more than politely hungry, you can relate. Every bite is sublime and the satisfaction is intoxicating.

I did get to meet him before he went back to the States and, YES, he was very handsome. 😊

Just thought about today when, unless he's not the "leading man", no American would be caught dead with anyone seeing the "tummy" he has which is one of the reasons I enjoy British dramas so much. In British detective shows, the people all look much more natural instead of having perfect bodies and perfect teeth, etc. And, much better scripts without depending on shoot-outs and beating people up. And, no, I'm not a big fan of Britain, but they do some things quite well.

Eventually after scrolling through the comments, wondering does anybody understand the actual meaning and depth of the movie. Luckily we found one! Yes indeed, the society is completly hypnotised by this silly money game. As Rudolf Steiner (founder of Anthroposophy )called it 'deep economic sleep'. To make people move around you have to wave money at them. Good example: Earthquake in Turkey, forest burning, hungry people, etc... and what do they ask for...money first..or nobody will lift a finger. All the complaints of life is thanks to people themselves. This movie showed it very well.

Today it's Nov. 8,2018, I was cruising on the KZbin, found this movie. The story I have loved very much when I was middle high school boy of 13 or 14, In Tokyo Japan, Mark Twain's story translated into Japanese. I laughed, read again, and laugh again so many times. and somehow forgotten the book or the story. I did not know the story became the movie. After 70 years later, in the USA where I live now, found the movie which I did not know it's exist. It's a joy to go back to this Old humor story by Twain. I am having a happy day

I figured it out when Gregory Peck was trying to pick up that pear off the sidewalk when the two brothers asked him to step inside. This movie is the inspiration for the 1980's movie Trading Places isn't it? 😄

Such a delightful movie. No gratuitous violence or sex, just a lot of wholesome fun and a comment on human nature. Lately I find myself drawn to these old movies because of the common sense and meaning they embody that's almost been lost in today's day and age. And Gregory Peck was a real gentleman - also in real life, which makes watching him all the more enjoyable.

In my school days 70 MM Screen was a new exhilarating experience.Me and my elder brothers and sisters would get up early have breakfast and stand in the queue for tickets 2 hours before the show .The movie ,you guessed it MACKENNAS GOLD.Never forget THAT Experience till my last breath.Where are those 70 MM Screens now?I wish my children who watch their movies on smartphones could have that experience.Gone are those days ,gone are those actors like Gregory Peck and gone are directors like J.Lee Thompson.

Alicia Danowski Actually, Clint Walker had jet black wavy hair with beautiful deep blue eyes and a voice of an angel. Google him. His daughter, Valerie, was one of the first, if not the first, commercial airline pilots. I was really young when Cheyenne was originally on but I got hooked on it the last two seasons it aired. Now I watch it on Prime Video. Take care.

I think this was the very first English film in black and white I watched as a young boy back in the cinema in China and it was such a success back then that we all had a big laugh, enjoyed it, and learned what English humour was. I watched it again a couple of times later on as a secondary school student whose only interest in his studies was English. Now I've viewed it again on my computer and found this new colour version absolutely delicious and funny. What a pleasant experience again and I now intend to show it to my baby son and hope he will like it too.

An interesting fact is that this movie (along with many others at the time) showcased "British culture" to a curious American public. Feelings of alliance , commonality and jocular humor between the British and Americans was strongly promoted post WW2 and during the cold war . Hollywood was more than happy to be a conduit for such amicable aspirations.
