This is my saving grace- 7 yrs ago my 29 yr old nephew passed away and shattered my heart. I was barely making it through and this song found me and carried me until I could stand on my own again...each day outside from early morning until after dark working in the hot sun of summer landscaping the front of the Apts I was living in at the time. As soon as I started working my phone would be qued up and I'd press the START button and I would sing the song as best I could while sobbing and shoveling dirt and planting flowers. I would play it over and over and over, sometimes for hours on end-I could find no peace without it as it was my only source of comfort. I sent it to everyone I knew as a way of sharing my pain and loss and to hopefully bring peace to any who needed it- crying all the while. I've really only recently been able to listen with out crying and sometimes still do. This song saved me and made me remember that we're ALLgoing to be alright- for we are forgiven and we are truly loved.

Jesus.?! What does Jesus do for those of us afflicted today? Christians who think they are better than all and are ready to cast stones upon the afflicted ones. The hate that fills Christians today makes a mockery of the meaning of this song. I lost my way but society only wishes to keep its boot pressed upon my neck. This is the Christianity of America.

I just heard this and what a clarion call. There is a great work to be done for those of us that are disciples of Christ. As he sung the lyrics to this song, I could see women trapped in prostitution, children being forced into sexual acts with adults, men with no hope selling themselves to support their habits, families being destroyed, runaways weeping because they have burnt all their bridges. We true Christians need to find ourselves in the alleys of the world bringing hope to the afflicted and the lost and lonely ones. We need to be just like Jesus, let our hearts cry be" lord take me to the alleys". This is for the unselfish ones The true believers who want to do Gods work in the earth. This ungodly world needs us even though they will never admit it. Lord help us protect the innocent and support your righteous cause to reach the lost. Take me to the alley! Visualize your self going to these places. Jesus left this work for us to continue!

We always think thug, sex, and drugs is it...brainwashed us in the music industry. But love is the great equalizer! And that is what Gregory Porter is. Pure beauty and pure love! Shit.

What an amazing composition. "When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”…

The first time I heard this was on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (Giving Tuesday). I watched people driving into the mall parking lots, buying Christmas decorations, etc. and all I could think of is what would happen if everyone in every city and every town would just stop at that moment and listen to this song...certainly it would change millions of people...no more homelessness, etc. Yes, I've always been to idealistic.

To be honest, I just discovered it a few months back and the first thing I could think on was Jesus. Today, I'm at a real low point, and I listened to it today because I needed it. Blessings Gregory and writer.
