Just wanted to drop a comment saying thank you for all these free lectures. I found stoicism in the last few months and have put it into works and am now seeing the benefits, lots of it coming from your work. Much appreciated sir 🙏

I just recently found your Soundcloud. Thank you for making your talks more accessible on the go. You should add a link (I know you already have many in your descriptions) so more of your KZbin viewers know you have a Soundcloud with so many great playlists.

Bravo. Very well done.. THANK YOU. My absolutely favorite book is 1, 7, and 9. Using this knowledge jave proven to be successful, and im 56 year old. Thank you for the extra bit of knowledge. Im still learning something new every day.. its fun for me. When I was taking my sons to story hour at my local library, I read one of his books every week. I could never speed read through them, because I had to reflect and chew on each book and read between the lines gradually. I absolutely love all philosophy. I may only have 2 years of college but I feel as if I have a Masters by being self taught. Lol I still have to learn that some people still won't get the message about character and being mindful enough to control their anger., especially about how you should conduct yourself with anger. I must stop saying, "Can't you just think about it" and relize their thinking can't process it the way I do. But I still get a little pissed off, because of their ignorance or lack of knowledge. SOME people in my life, lack emotional control AND WILL NEVER SEE THE LIGHT. Sorry for my ADHD mind. I am a strong Ne, thinking.

It's easy - as Marcus knew - to get angry with people who don't "get it"

5:00 I often feel both despair and relief when thinking about my life with the "view from above." It certainly helps me to deal with stressful situations, but it also takes the wind out of my sails at times.

Then you may want to modify how you’re doing it

Anger is like lightning striking a tree, a spark to start a larger fire. Some forest fires are useful for removing rotted wood and undergrowth, while others only serve destruction.

If anger is almost always useless, often counterproductive, and almost always impossible to calibrate correctly, shouldn't we just abandon it altogether "a la Seneca"? I'm not saying it's a plausible goal, but a worthy one.
@GregoryBSadler3 жыл бұрын
“Abandoning” it is easier said than done. That’s why the Stoics devote so much attention to practices

If someone tries to kill you for example, anger would certainly be a good thing if it got you out of the situation. So it definitely has its place sometimes.

If someone actually tries to kill you, it’s probably not anger you’re going to be feeling
