Here's an update - it's been about 18 months now and I just completed my 700th video on rebuilding model trains! My niche is very small, but I've got 2500 subscribers, which might seem like nothing, but rebuilding model trains is a pretty small audience and I've got a great community. Thanks to this machine, my videos are 1920x1080 60fps - this wasn't possible before. I am grateful everyday to be able to mostly help people rebuild and repair something precicious from their childhood! I must also add that thanks to this machine I can use modeling programs that take real horsepower and have done amazing stuff with them - and I'm still learning!

@@bricolmane just to piggy back a thought as you just replied today. Not all disabled veterans "need" a new PC. I just don't want you, or anyone else to think because someone identifies themselves as "disabled vet" that they're looking for anything. I'm pretty sure that's not what you meant so please take no offenses by my commentary but I suspect some people do. The VA takes a very long time compensating veterans for their service-connected disabilities and its within that timeframe that the most "need" exists. Even worse are those veterans that will never be compensated for their losses after serving -- and they're even likelier to have a need above everyone else.

Greg, I want to update you and tell you that this machine has changed so many things for the better for me. It has done much more than make a dent; it has allowed me to share things that reach the audience that I wanted to reach - namely those who have a hobby and have tiny budget. You guys did something that has changed the lives of people all around the world. I've been able to show things to others, for whom, a small hobby keeps them going, like me, everyday. Thank you and again I'm going to keep on trying to inspire people... and I'll keep posting and update here and there...
@elite1943 жыл бұрын
This new machine, to me, is like a very high end tool and I can't properly describe how much I appreciate it yet. I only have a little idea that this machine is much more powerful - fist indication was starting inkscape in about 10 seconds after installing 10,000 extra fonts. To show you that this gift has meaning I will need to learn something new and produce something that wasn't possible previously. I'll have a proper way of saying thank you by creating something cool to share with everyone.
@bluerune73053 жыл бұрын
He said what's that inside the compute, that s the graphics card.. That was priceless but even better was his reaction to the mousepad, he got kinda excited for that one :) Just cause he didn't jump up and down and scream aloud with excitement doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate the gift, he def appreciated it and like Greg said he will def put it to use and be able to take advantage of all the horsepower that pc has to offer.
@elite1943 жыл бұрын
the mousepad is fantastic and the keyboard is lighted just perfect. I've got a damaged eye making it hard to see some things and those kinds of features are incredible! I can only imagine that someone designed for just my situation - or they made it because it is cool for the sake of being cool (more likely). the power of this machine makes possible the things that I once gave up on because rendering would fail (after waiting overnight) and I would be crushed about starting over. I've already started adding titles again to my videos that I quit doing because renders failed so often. I am hoping to build something in my workshop that I can give to Greg to use in one of his future builds - probably a piece of LED lighting that you can't buy that can only be made by a person.

I've started giving it more of a workout. I made a series of videos that I wanted to make into a 1 hour single video with a title. It was 100k frames. This would take at least 5 hours on the old machine - this fantastic tool you guys built for me did it in about 22 minutes. This was the first time I was able to take a special request from a viewer and respond with an instructional video specifically help someone repair a heavily damaged locomotive. I still don't know how I can properly thank you for what you guys did. I think I'm going to build something for both you and Shellback to use in one of your builds - something cool made from scratch using raw materials.

this is such a huge gift to me. it makes my workshop so much more capable of producing content that applies to people who want to do a hobby that is notorious for being only for rich people. everything I build is scavenged, bought as junk or considered obsolete. I enjoy showing that anyone can do this with next to nothing for a budget. I am still in a state of shock about how much these guys upgraded my whole workshop. I could never have gotten something like this on my own and I was just resigned to the fact that I would always make do with whatever I could get for cheap. Greg and Shellback put me in a whole new league of creators who have resources that I will never have, but my mission is still the same to show that anyone can do what I do.
