You are quite mistaken….. sure there is individual style here unique to the illustrator. When you can draw what you see….. this is the exact same thing just a different approach built on the same foundation. There is no secret barrier of entry exclusive to anybody. This is just studying….

Hi Graig! I have my BA..not my BFA and I went through such hard times in college that I find it hard to pick a paintbrush anymore even though my mind wants to. I’ve been struggling financially for years and just with life in general. Your gifts, skills, creativity and willingness to share your process gives me hope that I’ll find my passion again one day. I start working at a call center in a week for $15/hr 😒 but one of my dreams is to one day own one of your masterpieces. Watching you build these worlds keeps me from giving up. Thank you so much!😊

It's great to watch the brush meister, at work, a true wonder of colour mixing and dark line work. Watching it for the 2nd time it's still a great wonder to behold and is such a wonderful inspiration thanks Greg. For my sins I spent about 20 years as an inbetween artist for the animation industry until about 2001 when all the studio's went digital and overnight thousands of paint & trace artist lost their jobs. I went back to the building industry and started working in lime putty mortars and plasters and learned a new, old skill called pargetting. Aged 64 I still draw everyday and thanks to my assistant animator skillset and watching how the Disney animators sketched out their work brought this into my own design where I start (on paper) using orange and light blue pencils to rough out my shapes before using either a brush or a fountain pen with black ink to create the thick to thin finish line work. Another thing I learned, always carry a small sketchbook and pen around to copy what pleases your eye. Art, music, film and cartoon have all helped me to stay busy and sane in this crazy, frantic world.
@GregSimkinsArt Жыл бұрын
Wow Peter! I'm glad to hear you are still drawing everyday and sketching and making art! That had to have been quite a shake up when digital came in. Keep it up and I agree with your mini sketchbook statement. It's so important!

@@GregSimkinsArt, it sure was, in the small commercial studio we took on 4 or 5 ladies who came in to paint all the cells, an average ad was about 350 drawings and they took about a week to 9 days. When the boss bought their Animo system it took one operator about 4 to 5 hours to do everything and publish. I still had my job but not for long so I quit and started another non-art job. Welcome to the world of lime plastering.

This is remarkable. I just kept saying 'Wow' every time I saw another wonderfully finished piece. Although I do wonder while your amazing paintings are often full of animals and otherworldly creatures why they don't interact with each other in some way. They are together in the painting and yet remain apart, never to touch or glance at another. This interaction would give them some interesting expressions and give you an added challenge in creating this emotional reaction.
