When these items are half price at woolies, I buy up a heap for my teenagers.. I know it’s not the best after school /per dinner snack but it’s simple, cheap and hits the spot till tea time. $1.25 half price, Mrs Mac’s pies, pasties or sausage rolls ain’t too bad. Better priced than the local bakery.

@ Randomness true, what the main grocery Shops there in the Uk?? Here it’s Woolworths, Coles, Aldi and IGA. A few Woolworths closed down here in the past couple of years. But still one of the main supermarket chains. Old mate GregO gets heaps of good marked down specials from woolies.

I remember when I was younger I was having a pie with a mate and no joke my mate sat there n was nibbling on a chunky bit and yeah his exact words were "yummy an vein" and I was like yeah wat ever then he pulled it out of his mouth and it was litterly an artery u could see it was the big vein and u could see the smaller ones attached.. so yeah from then I've Neva been a big pie eater as I like to see wat I'm eating now but I still have the odd one here and there..

The only thing that pisses me off these days is when u buy a pie or some shit they bloody cold.. what happened to the good old days where the pie was so hot u burnt ur mouth and it's the only reason why u needed sauce coz it cooled it down a little to get a bite lol..

Might help if you have the right type of microwave and temperature too. Mrs Mac's are yum! Only known about them recently thanks to my WA born partner. If you must, turn over half way through to make sure they're cooked properly and maybe don't have in the freezer beforehand. Chill department in your fridge is all it needs.

In the UK I have steak and stilton pie from the chippy with my chips, cheese and gravy. I do have frozen pie sometimes with salt, vinegar and broon sauce, I buy them in packs from an award winning pie shop and butchers, you can buy the same pies hot too, even a large dinner plate sized pie for a family as well as hot sandwiches like pulled pork. They are some of the best pies I've ever had though I'll begrudgingly admit that o'er the hills in yorkshire they know how to make a good pie too.

Hi Greg I got a question about pies I’m wondering whether you’re able to answer. I’m from NZ and ‘Mince n Cheese’ and ‘Steak n Cheese’ are like what Vanilla flavour is to Icecream, they’re the standard pie flavour found everywhere in NZ. When I was living in the Gold Coast last year I found that Mince n Cheese and Steak n Cheese is not common place and hard to come by. I found a pie shop bakery that stated Steak n Cheese and Mince n Cheese is a Kiwi pie which I found quite suprising, just wondering if you’re able to confirm if this is true? Yatala pies are my favourite.

Patties party pies are very nice and never found any gristle in them. Don’t over cook them though or they get too hard.

So many funny comments I could make but so little time...Sigh... ...I've often wondered what it meant when it says "Thickener (1422)" on the list of ingredients of this sort of product so on this occasion I decided to look it up... ..."Hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate (HDP) is a modified resistant starch. It is currently used as a food additive (INS number 1442)." Yummo! Could literally be Deadorse in that pie!

Hey, Grego I recently found a great KFC breading substitute from IGA call AJ's Chicken Crispy Fry. It comes in original, garlic and spicey. I have no affiliation with this company so not trying to plug the product but I wondered if you might give it a shot. Simply put it in a plastic bag, shake and fry. I love it. 😋

You could try making steak pie. Get a ceramic cooking pot with a lid or any cooking dish with a lid, add a chopped onion, mushrooms if you like, stewing/braising steak on top of chopped veg. Mix a teaspoon of instant beef gravy with a stock cube in a cup of boiling water and pour over the top, season with a bit of salt and lots of pepper and cook at 300 to 320f for about 2 hours, stir occasionally. Remove steak onto a plate and cut into cubes, trim any excess fat. Line greased pie dish with pastry, add chunks of beef and pour over gravy, thicken the gravy in a pan first, you can taste to check seasoning but not until it's reduced as the flavour will concentrate. Put pastry lid on and coat with beaten egg. Put hole in top for steam to escape and cook until golden brown. Go on, cook a cow pie, impress your friends.
