This is decal set is new to me, so Just a quick vid on how robust this stuff seems. We all usually prep a surface before we add decals, sand or gloss, but I wanted to show this solution on a crap surface. Doesn't handle it 100% but does a sterling job.

THis product was recommended to me by my local model shop to get decals into instrument panels and it is excellent for that as it really makes decals conform to odd and uneven surface shapes. Being a bit older than you I remember the smell of film cement when my dad was editing his cine films. I am sure it is the same stuff that he used to glue segments of film together.

Best dribble I've heard on YT for a while so thanks, Greg....great looking product and, as a Microset/sol user you've managed to convince me to give this product a try. I don't enjoy decaling at the best of times so any help is appreciated.

I bought both the set & fix a few weeks ago but haven't got around to trying them yet , so this video is very interesting. I've used many over the years , Microscale , Daco , even X20a but this looks promising. Thanks Greg 👍

Looks an interesting product - I've used Microset and Microsol for years, using the Mr Hobby Mark Softer and Mark Setter products for more troublesome decals. This product looks like its working well. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Bob

Yes, I used Micro set/sol or Markfit depending on the type of decals.

Looks like it's well worth having on hand. I don't care to decal much either, always that fear of "silvering" on a kit you spent months on and that one and only decal sheet you finally found. Never been a fan of spraying countless coats of varnish just to apply decals either. It looks pretty good for those Tamiya "stickers" also. You would think they would trash their overly heavy decals for the kit's high price tag. Thanks Greg for the honest review, great as always ! Cheers, JM

I've sworn by Mr Hobby's softener and setter for years, but this certainly looks like it would stand up. I'd recommend looking into Mig (or AMMO, I lose track of which name they use) decal brushes. They make a set of 2 or 3 brushes specifically for decal application, and whilst they cost what you'd expect from the brand, they're actually really very good at what they do. Some thought was put into the design for sure.

Howdy from Texas, again. I have been using the Set #1 & the Fix #2 for about a year now without any issues. Great stuff. The Fix #2 is good for older decals from your stash. Or thicker decals that need a little extra help. Either way the key to it's magic is to apply and let dry. Just as you demonstrated. Best wishes & take care!

In a nutshell #1 set helps the decal stick in place to the surface and #2 Fix helps it conform to the details in the plastic (round panel lines and bumps etc). Basically, apply some #1 before application (and make sure the surface is gloss coated to protect the paint!) and once dry, apply #2 over the top. I’ve been using it for a while now - it’s great!
@andrewbrown2249
@andrewbrown2249 Жыл бұрын
Also, be really sure before applying #2 - it will melt the decal a bit and trying to move it after even a few seconds will result in an unwanted chipping effect…

Looks good yep!. But later on some other company will put out a new product. So when does it stop never,never. I just stay with old stuff. I have done well by these old products and it form well around rivets on airplane micro mark or weather.

A long time ago in a Model Publication, far, far Away.... The only advice available was to trim off surplus Decal Material, leaning only the actual letters and use Gloss Varnish, followed by Matt Varnish to finish the Job. The results were not reliable or convincing. Decal Solutions help a great deal. Personally, I pronounce it "Decal". If anyone prefers "Decal", that's fine as well. Cheers Greg.

From a selfish point of view, Tamiya. And it would be interesting to see the results on different paint surfaces 👍😎
