Today we begin Witchery on our quest to brew the potions of Shifting Seasons. This will enable us to change the biomes around the Alvearies to make our bees jubilant and allow them to give us all their special drops.

That bug actually applies to all quests. TL;DR: There's some funkiness going on with certain Warp effects and quest notifications, so if you get a specific warp effect (might be one of several, not sure) it'll cause all quest notifications to turn the screen black until a client restart. Turning off quest notification is a simple temporary solution. A Witch's Cauldron does require fire. Unfortunately unlike it's TC counterpart Witch Cauldrons are not heated up by Nitor, so you'll have to use conventional methods to keep it burning. 30 minutes to set up a basic, if slightly costly infusion. This is what happens when your Thaumcraft infrastructure was set up in MV-HV and hasn't gotten a second look since 🙃. Man who has spend 1300+ hours playing GTNH, staring at an infusion that takes a few minutes: "Geez this is slow without tick acceleration...at least I think you can tick accelerate it, can't you?" (For the record, yes, you can tick accelerate the infusion altar. Yes, you can cause a gigantic mess that way if you don't do it carefully. Keep that in mind.) Why, yes, that new abode is *much* better. Now I can formulate all of my nefarious pla-ah I mean, *assist Three* to the best of my abilities in style. Naturally 🙃. Unsure as to where to get a player head without dying? There's an information quest for Lootgames bonus dungeons, if you remember those, that warns about how temperamental they can be about unusual blocks - notably oil spouts - being inside the lootgames room and going berserk as a result. The "reward" for that quest is a generic player head, which will work for boosting a Witchery altar. Alternatively there is a recipe for creating specific player heads added by Botania that is not in NEI, but you're going to have to cheat in a full Lexica Botania to see it because the recipe is considered Elven Knowledge, and the whole "throw the Lexica Botania through the alfheim portal to get their knowledge" thing is disabled in GTNH. Why? I'unno, but it is. The idea behind expertise is simply that as you bottle more and more potions you get better at it, allowing you to be more efficient. Witches' Hat and Robes helps, since it'll let you bottle more potions per brew, which in turns adds to your experience gain (if any) since that is tied to how many potions you bottle, not how many potion brews you cook up. Shifting Seasons is a difficult enough brew that you can get to max expertise with it, but you can start with simpler brews if you wish. Also for those reading the "+35%" listed on the tooltip of the hat and robes, the chance component only applies to simple potions made in the Kettle. Complex brews in a cauldron always benefit from wearing the right armor. There is a void drop filter that can automatically void items that end up in your inventory, for the record. Though I have no idea whether it'll take priority over any "throw junk into AE2 if possible" items if you have them active at the same time. ...Okay I have no idea why the questbook recommends those items for crafting a Shifting Seasons brew. Mandrake is literally useless, since it only adds +1 capacity and Shifting Seasons needs 8. There are no items that add 3, 5 or 7 capacity (to my knowledge). Diamonds are also something you do not want to use when making complex brews if you can avoid it, because for some mysterious reason it penalizes the amount of bottles you can fill per brew. It's not documented anywhere that I know of, in the questbook or in Witchery's own documentation, but either way avoid diamonds if you can. That does mean needing to use a Nether Star for +4 Capacity, since everything bar diamond only adds up to 7 out of the needed 8 (well, Pentacles, but let's just say that's an even worse option)...but there's multiple solutions to Nether Stars that bees offer, and chances are if you're doing Shifting Seasons it's for bees. So pick one, swim in Nether Stars and brew to your heart's content. Witchery Distilleries do require an altar nearby to draw altar power from, and will show a small icon if they cannot find an altar within range. That said they don't need anything on the scale that brewing Shifting Seasons potions does (to my knowledge), and you need a Witchery altar to do a lot of other Witchery stuff anyway, so same difference really. Charging attuned stones requires a basic ritual with circle magic. It's not something you have to do for bees, though, because adding a charged attuned stone wouldn't cover more than one Alveary with a single potion anyhow. So Glowstone + Blaze Rod is enough. Note that Journeymap can be slow to notice when you switch to a different biome, so use F3 to more accurately check the effect of Shifting Seasons brews. Changing grass colors unacceptable for your bee build, BTW? Botania adds several grass blocks that are not changed by the biome they are in, so you could try using those to maintain a consistent grass tone.

Hi Shadow, First off thank you for these massive info filled comments, they are literally all gold. Secondly, I put it in a different comment on this video but I thought I'd ask you directly since you know GTNH inside and out... Do you know how the Purifying Bath Salts and the various Thaumic Insurgence soaps work? There's the basic soap that has a chance to remove temporary warp, as well as a few others that Thaumic Insurgence adds that have a chance at removing permanent warp at the cost of adding double the amount removed back as other forms of warp. I've looked around online and the best info I can find on the stuff is literally just looking at the Thaumic Insurgence source code on GIT, which isn't a fast way of getting info... Have you ever messed with any of that or know where some documentation could be found?
@TheShadowofX
@TheShadowofX 11 ай бұрын
@@darkhawk155 Thaumic Insurgence is a mod I tend to avoid if possible, mainly because of that "no one reads ingame documentation anyway so lets just stuff it full of Undertale memes and refer people looking for info to Discord/source code" mentality, so I can't say I've ever looked into the upgraded soaps at all. For warp management I prefer setting up a Soul Brazier to store permanent warp - a journey to be sure, but one well worth it IMO - and from there default TC soap can take care of the sticky and temporary warp easily enough (alternatively Flux Scrubber with the sanity enhancement, though I've not tested that personally).
@darkhawk155

@@TheShadowofX 👍Thanks for the advice. I definitely got that "why bother documenting anything" feeling when I looked. I think I'm at the point where I can make a soul brazier, at least I've seen the research for it is available to me, so I'll take a look at that route.

some notes on witchery: You can really have as many altars as you want in the grove area. This is only really useful if you construct certain rites or autocraft with distillery/spinning wheel since they'll continually drain altar power. Still, it's fairly cheap, so it's good to note to up your altar power without needing to build more nature. (Note that rites only bind to one altar, so you still need a large capacity on at least one to activate them.) Speaking about building more nature, you don't have to grow saplings for the wood. You can really customize the trees if you just place the logs and leaves yourself. This also of course goes for the witchery-based trees, which are extra effective for altar power; making a big Rowan tree with twisting branches and roots is great fun. For your specific area you've built, it would be realllly neat I think if you had like these big tree roots sprawling through and beneath the structure. For the cauldron, it's best to have a specified area for it, since you can augment it with placed chalk circles (preferably white chalk). This has a couple effects, but mainly it prevents negative effects from doing certain brews in the cauldron. (It also makes the altar power a bit cheaper, but not as important with how easy altar power is to get.) And regarding the whole expertise thing- it's not as significant as you'd think. You can check your expertise by I believe using a Seer Stone (which you'll need to craft to assist with certain circle magic rites), but honestly I'm not totally sure how to make most of it. I think it'll only give "extra" potions in the cauldron if you add the right potion effect by adding Drop of Luck. Not only does this take more potion capacity (you might need a nether star to add it to the Sifting Seasons), but also dros of luck are really expensive. So it's usually just cheaper to craft another potion from scratch. (Note that expertise only affects the cauldron - Kettle-brewed potions and duplication bonuses are only affected by the Witch armor set, and perhaps the Toad familiar.) Another note for the cauldron - while you can bottle the potions, it's much more effective to cast certain potions as rituals. It's fairly simple, but still a bit more involved; after adding your gunpowder, you need to add a Bound Waystone, followed by a Tongue of Dog. It'll cast the potion at a greater effect at the coordinates defined by the Bound Waystone. In order to get that, you just need to make a small circle of white chalk (total 8 chalk, center is blank) and toss a waystone in the middle (you can toss up to 8 to bind them all). You don't need altar power for it, so you could just make them right there in the bee rooms. The range of the ritual i've found to be quite a lot larger - more than a chunk, in optimal stats. However, if the bound waystone is too far from the cauldron you're trying to cast from, you might need more witches in your coven - which requires you to undergo an Infusion, which is its own rabbit hole. You could also summon the Shade of Leonard, which is the same brewing steps but add a nether star after the diamond, then after that throw in a Witch's Hat. He's a passive demon at first but don't provoke him because he is not an easy boss. While passive and nearby, though, he enables the cauldron to cast those rituals across dimensions - and by extension, any range within a dimension, I believe. Charging Attuned Stones is a matter of circle magic; you need to perform the Rite of Charging, which you can find in one of witchery's books. Im not sure if any ingredients are changed in the rite itself, but from memory, it's fairly cheap, requiring a bunch of dusts. It basically takes about 3k altar power and puts it into the stone, so beyond being a crafting ingredient, you can also use it to activate certain circle magic rituals anywhere without an altar setup. For other random notes: this version of Witchery was created by a different author than the modern Bewitchment - mostly because the original Witchery author disappeared basically. (The last mod they created was Intangible for 1.10 I think.) Kinda sad, but nice that new mod authors have recreated the classic for newer versions.

Maybe it’s worth making the multiblock chiseling machine so you don’t have to do that manually You can change the time in the void dim from day to night The witches cauldron can have water pumped into it Witchery has much larger altar power ranges than bewitchment and easier to get higher numbers To charge the attuned stone I think there is a ritual for that If you put the drawer with the drones on higher priority then you don’t necessarily need to filter the outputs of the bee if you void excess drones

when you get the chance, go for the DoB bee. The amount of useful byproducts is insane. You can get fully processed naquadah dust for your silicon boules, and energetic alloy ingots, not dust. To breed it tho, you need the naquadah bee, to source the 9 ingots you need, save the naquadah ore from IV lootbags for the bee, or you can wait for T3 rocket.

The species of a breeder bee does come into play in regards to mutations - say you wanted to put Majestic bees to work and your breeder bees are Noble, you'd have a chance to mutate into Imperial bees while breeding and lose pretty much everything up to and including your bee species - but it's nothing the *tiniest* bit forward planning can't solve. In the specific case of Noble it becomes risky to breed with Marshy, Majestic, Diligent, Cultivated and Monastic. Spoiler: None of those bees produce anything that another bee doesn't also produce, and usually at better rates to boot. And even if Marshy was a production bee you wanted, it's mutation with Noble requires a specific condition - Warm/Damp climate - so simply *not* satisfying that condition means it'd be safe to breed anyhow. Meaning using Noble as a breeder bee is perfectly fine. So what happens if your breeder bee is at risk of mutating with a bee you want to breed traits on, and there's no condition required for that mutation to happen? Well, have you already bred those traits onto another bee, by chance? Say, Imperial and Industrious to speed up Alveary production, which share zero unconditional mutations? Or perhaps one of the dye bees for faster honey production, some of which have zero mutations period? Yeah. So long as you can pass on the traits to *any* other bee, said other bee will than steadily produce drones with those same traits, making them usable as another template bee. And the moment you have one or more functional template bees that either don't share or have no mutations, you're done worrying about it forever. Do keep it in mind while breeding the template bee and the first few bees you pass template bee traits onto, just to not get surprise blind sighted and suddenly lose a ton of work to a random RNG roll, but just pay attention and very soon it'll never be an issue ever again. Incidentally, that is why I do recommend using a species that cannot mutate in the first place for breeder bees. It doesn't make a difference long term, but introduce a potential point of failure and sooner or later Murphy is going to knock on your door and waggle his finger disapprovingly. It's a mindset some develop during their playtime of GTNH after the third time a missing piece of roof caused half the factory to explode... For the record, 3x intricate circuit board with 4x golden electron tubes each gives a 125x multiplier to mutation rates, which translates to a 100% chance so long as the base chance is at least 0.8%. Basically, unless the chance is listed as

Hey Three, in regards to the warp problem: I did find an added line for the InGameXML mod that shows you the warp you have on the GTNH wiki, instead of needing to use the Arcane Litmus Paper item (which is a consumable). Not sure if you consider that too cheaty. Another thing that I'd like a bit of help understanding is the Purifying Bath Salts and the various Soaps that can add or remove the different types of warp. That dips into the Thaumic Insurgence tab of the Thaumanomicon and I cannot find much documentation for outside just looking at the TI mod's source code. If you or Shadow know how all that is supposed to work I'd love to learn more. I try to keep my total warp under 20 because that is when your character starts dropping (laying) eggs everywhere, which just annoys me to no end as it fills my inventory with eggs.

about the witchery/bewitchment textures, the guy who made witchery is not the same who made bewitchment so is more like an spiritual successor to the original one

Three Id love it if you could set up a node feeding station for thaumcraft. Energizing a giant hungry node with a few hundred vi if the basic aspects is just awesome

You can share the bottle mold in the ae inscriber pattern bus The witchery altar looks great! There's also the pentacle but I'm not sure it's obtainable There is a ritual to charge the attune stone, it's documented in the book of rituals, but it's NOT worth it for the shifting seasons potion LOL I have done basically the same thing with the combs - I had accidentally left a blazing electron tube in my alveary, and this was in the one version where that would make the temperature hellish but not mention this in the climate gui or circuit board tooltip, so I could not figure out why I wasn't getting combs. I even ended up recompiling forestry with debug print statements. Now circuit boards that have blazing electron tubes will at least say so in their tooltips, although I unfortunately couldn't figure out how to fix the climate gui Bees check their jubilence every bee tick

The changelogs for the GTNH Fork of BetterQuesting for version 3.5.3 mention that the issue with the black screen should be fixed. A simple mod update (replace the mod file on both server and client) should fix the issue (at least it did so for me)
